Benjamin Mendy - City lose case and Mendy awarded £11m in back pay (p168)

I think making him claim is the right stance. Would actually be surprised we get to hear the outcome as it will probably be settled outside Tribunal with confidentiality agreements. Any sum paid will be small print in future club accounts.
Trust that the club took formal recorded steps to warn him about his conduct when and if they learned about him veering off the rails so the full contractual liability can be lessened. And signed him on a solid contract with clear clauses on standards of conduct and behaviour. In this regard (rape allegations aside) things that came out in the court hearings -like the lockdown orgies- will hamstring his case for full payout.

You can imagine how imaginative his menu of claim could be - not just unpaid basic wage but lost appearance, win and bonus monies, and image rights etc.

Just shows the value of doing your homework on a player before you sign them.

Contracts are a lot more complicated than that, they state expectations of each party and we don’t have the details. I’m also not sure where the club played it wrong, I do recall them being criticised for selecting him in the period before he was arrested (or named in the media). I think the club were in a very difficult position.
Im sure we just followed the small print in his contract regarding his wages whilst incarcerated. We do everything strictly by the book don’t we

The whole thing is hilarious.

* Mendy was charged in August 2021 on full pay,
* In September 2021 he was remanded into custody after breaching his bail conditions which stated he could not have house parties. The Judge at the time (district judge, Jack McGarva) said he was not satisfied that Mendy would not commit further offences if allowed to leave court on bail.
* At this point City stopped paying him on the basis he was unavailable for work.
* In January 2022 Mendy was released on bail, with the specific conditions he could not step foot in the county of Greater Manchester and was required to surrender his passport, fitted with a electronic tag and subject to a curfew.

So from September 2021 to January 2022 he was in prison due to his own fault (breaching bail conditions). So could not train or play for Manchester City.
From January 2022 till his Contract expired, he couldnt attend any city training session, play any home game, any night game or any European away game.

I mean him expecting to get paid in the above circumstances seems pretty much bonkers to me. I mean if someone is called up for Jury service as per the law your company does not have to pay you (though many do), but in this other Mendy world, the club would be expected to pay him because he cant play due to his bail conditions.....

More likely its a ruse to either a) try and get City to pay something to get rid of the issue, or b) using this to increase his chances too get an extension on paying the tax man what he owes (which is whats happened).

The kindest thing you can say about him: was — or could have been — a good player. His performances at Monaco alone established that.
But definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer. All kinds of things showed that. This is just the latest. Pretty sure he's listening to the wrongest possible people.
Overpaid athletes with a court of toadies around them, whispering poison into their ear. Happens all the time.

If I was sent down for a couple of years on remand I’d lose my job and even if found not guilty I doubt my job would be waiting for me or my wages sat in the bank for the last couple of years.

Basically and I’m no lawyer, Mendy can go fuck himself, chancer

There’s a lot of supposition in that post.

100%. Keyword being contract. That's binding and shouldn't be violated. I think the powers that be at the club threw him under the bus before the justice system did, unfortunately things turned out differently. Naive on the part of the club.
lol, yep of course a Club who has just broken the English Premier League turnover have people at the top who are naive. Ffs, he breached his bail conditions, thats the starting point and no one knows what the rest of his contract includes apart from City and Mendy himself (plus his representatives of course).
