Love the idea that we should just make a take it or leave it offer to clubs for their players and set them a deadline before we walk away.
Most of these deals people are getting so upset about involve us trying to prise players away from their club that aren't actually for sale. Do you know what would happen if we said to Monaco or Arsenal "accept this now or we'll walk away"? They''d say "thank fuck, bye then." Sure we'd move onto the next target but I don't see why we should move onto inferior targets purely because some people on bluemoon need something to keep them occupied during July. If it takes until August to get the right people in then so be it.
Monaco don't especially want to sell and they have loads of money already. If/when this deal is concluded it's most likely going to be above what some would call market rate and it's going to take longer to find an arrangement that's appealing to all concerned. It's MID JULY and we already have three deals over the line that will significantly improve our first 11. There is no other club in our division that can claim that (Everton have done some smart businesss but they've sold their prize asset and look set to lose another). Chelsea and Arsenal have each signed a well regarded forward, but they're likely to lose an even better player in the process for less money before the window closes. United might be happy with Lukaku but they're down an Ibrahimovic. Who have Spurs and Liverpool bought? People need to calm down. We all know the merits of getting players in early but selling clubs aren't really in the business of making it easy for their rivals.
