It amazes me how some players avoid flack (ireland) for some dire performances and others like benjani get slated after 1 game after prolonged injury break and lack of football action. Yet he is expected to perform like straight away! His movement and shot for the goal, showed how handy he can be! Give him a break, we need to back up at the moment !

This. I'm amazed at the "dreadful" comments, he got 12 goals in the premier a couple of seasons ago. Doubt he'll stick around but good luck to him, not many "dreadful" players score against the rags at the theatre of death. Thanks for sticking away the one chance we gave you Benji. He's also earning shit loads more money every year than those slagging him, wonder if that's a factor? You might not rate him, but he's playing at the highest level and you're not for a reason. To be fair to him he hasn't played for quite a while and every player needs a few games under their belt. However, even when he did play regularly we could all see his faults, particularly his lack of ball control which is a standard skill for a 10 year school team player.

A pal of mine was talking to Harry Redknapp at a City game a couple of seasons ago and 'Arry told him "Benji's a triffic lad but he's never going to be a prolific goalscorer. Selling him to buy Jermaine Defoe was a no-brainer."
