It's not up to us to tell other countries what is racist,we are different cultures, nobody is interested in the advert, they are entirely interested, dare i say frothing about a portugese player being racist when he clearly is not

clearly stated as such previously about bernado, the media as we know is just using this stick to try and unstable us

why can't we say its racist? if we don't they will continue to think its ok.

we condemn monkey chants from italian and eastern european culture, what the difference

Can someone explain exactly what offence was taken?

I fail to see how using a public legal symbolic representation of a Portuguese sweet manufacturer in a jovial fashion with your mate is offensive.

Mendy is a person of colour, so is the illustrated character used. Is the thrust of the comparison about someone who eats a lot of sweets and is carrying a bit of timber... that's how I'd read it... you know the kind of thing mates do to each other when having a laugh and taking the piss.

In fact if this was something people were not allowed or encouraged to happen, that is what I'd consider as being racist - deprivision based on skin tone.
I suppose the supplementary question would be...

Who has taken offence and on what grounds and indeed, do they have the right to be offended, by what is an innocent joke between two best pals?

There couldnt be more difference. Why apologise for something that isn't racist?
Conflating monkey chants with the Bernardo tweet is disgraceful.

Can we compare black people to other people?
Should all comparing be stopped because it's now deemed insensitive?

Where do we go from here?

its not the fact he compared mendy to someone else/thing that is black its the use of that particular character that's the issue, whether bernado knew it or not we can all agree it is a particular racial stereotype. airing it publically was a faux pas.

can we?

Seems to me the racist card is thrown out more and more by some as it gives their tender feelings some faux clout.

Sterling alluded to how down... Bernardo has been. It’s easy to be dismissive but I do think there’s been significant ‘I’m deeply offended’ from the usual suspects in the anti-city camp. I haven’t heard the likes of Andy Hinchcliffe slamming Boris Johnson for his islamapheobic comments - letterboxes etc... seems his move into political correctness is reserved entirely for us. Equally, the BBC is being high and mighty on this whilst hanging one of its own employees out to dry - for condemning racist comments.... This is as much a case of who did it... i don’t want to dusmiss this issue completely- lessons must be learned but it’s being used as another stick to beat us with.
Spot on. Some have a very selective target and motive

Because it's not our cause to change an advert in another country,it has nothing at all to do with monkey chants

There couldnt be more difference. Why apoligise for something that isn't racist?

you're twisting my words

i wasn't conflating bernado with monkey chants at all, it was in reply to karen saying we can't challenge other countries on racism

out of order mate
