Bernardo Silva tweet controversy

I was expecting Mendy to write something about this in Bernardo's defence, but I guess club banned them of adding anything more.

I hate to break this to you but maybe, just maybe, it’s because Coronation Street isn’t real and the person who played the character was, ahem, just acting? I mean, was Helen Worth ever pulled up when her character Gail Tilsley made homophobic comments towards Todd Grimshaw after he made a pass at her son?
The character Mendy is compared to is also not real, the point I am trying to make is there appears to be a different definition of racism when it is a white person to a black/Asian than it is if it is an black/Asian against a white person.
A family member of mine works in the emergency services in Oldham and most attacks are Asian on white but these are not reported as race crimes. Unfortunately the majority of us have to walk on egg shells so not to upset the minority!

We know what argument you are trying to use but you are wrong and don't make sense at all. I am 100% sure you heard the word ****** many, many more times in movies than you've heard white trash. It's because that's what the art is about - to raise the issue sometimes and to depict that kind of people who used those words. Unless they are actually promoting those characters in good light, they are doing a job for society that you obviously fail to realize and understand.

What annoys me is conflating something that’s gauche and insensitive (Bernardo’s Post) to something that’s deliberate and nasty (the alleged treatment of the Dover lad).

Growing up in Fallowfield, I had mates of all colours. My best mate was as black as you could be. I called him chocolateman, he called me cornflake. Neither of us, or our families, ever took offence. The world‘s gone mad!

As an only slightly relevant aside to all this it shows how far things have changed to remember this from long ago. During a rugby league match at my native Swinton the famous Wigan winger Billy Boston (Welsh, black, built like a prop forward & fast with it) was getting fearsome abuse from a loudmouth in the crowd, a local character called Eric. After about an hour of it Boston came over the wall, spitting mad,and chased Eric along the terraces. That was real racism, and real anger by the player on the end of it, but no one else made anything of it and Eric was back in his spot for the next match.

I suppose it's a bit like Pepe the Frog, he has been used as a symbol to champion those with Autism, the Kekistani thing(I don't really understand that one), Hong Kong protests more recently.

He has also been appropriated by the far right and white supremacist's and now those are the only two choices it can mean to some. They go as far as looking for any use of Pepe the frog from someone's past social media posts, as a means to label them racist or far right, depending on what they are arguing about.

I was just going off the BBC News report in the link.

As I said, it must have been bad, but I guess “racial abuse” is now a simple blanket statement for “Believe us, it was racist and it was bad!” and I’m not good with that. I will judge for myself, because too many people have a hair trigger on faux outrage.

Another report said monkey chants were involved. As I say, though, if it was enough to shake an otherwise robust lad, it doesn’t look good.
