First, it is obvious why the tweet has gained attention. Second, let the players and the club deal with it internally. The game hasn't been brought into disrepute. It's a silly, silly post to make in a hypersensitive time. If I'd posted something similar about about any friend from any race, with different skin, I'd be in the doghouse. If I make a Welsh or Scottish accent, it may gather a cheap laugh - at best. That being said, in doing so, I'd probably be in the doghouse for a crappy Indian accent. I'm no impressionist.
The bigger issues in the game of racial abuse, FIFA and UEFA weakness are more pressing than ill-timed and ill-selected banter. Is it any different from using a blimp to describe Vinny K's head? Yes. Is it as bad as a jam company using gollies? That's for you to decide. The tweet is in the public domain like those gollies, that are antiques these days. Mendy is the ultimate alledged victim, but we live in a day and age where everyone wants PPI money and compensation. CITY could hit Bernardo with the book and some fines - that'd set an example - but it'd imply guilt. Was Silva guilty? Well, he did remove the tweet. I'm sure Liverpool Crown Court will issue their proceedings via the media channels and the FA will step in. The bigger picture and problem of racism in football - with FA ignorance will be overlooked once again.
I play football in China often and they call me 'Gweilo' which is ghost because I am white - or 'Laowei' which is alien. I often get pictures sent to me of Polar bears and weird white things. It is odd and unusual. Bernardo's tweet would never have happened in China.
There's no Twitter there.
But they do have national TV.

Apparently you can’t use the word witch-hunt any longer these days just in case the person you are talking or about believes in paganism. I kid you not, happened to a friend of mine recently who was bollocked for using such a word. He has also, in the past, been reprimanded for using the word brainstorming as in the sentence ‘we are having a brainstorming session on the subject later’. The world has been taken over by liberal left wing namby pambies
The post wasn't even addressed to Mendy, he wasn't tagged in it, Bernardo just sent a message to his 600,000 followers.
Anyone who claims it's a private joke is completely deluding themselves.

Anyone who gives a fuck about it must have very few real issues in their lives. Lucky things.
It seems it was a joke about his mate shared with others. Like jokes are.
The sharing is the part that is in question here.
Saying or questioning if Bernardo is a racist seems to me off the mark. It looks like the two of them have this kind of relationship.
I know others who act like this between each other. Calling each other using clearly racist language which would never be used in normal conversation.
He has made an error and will pay a price, either a ban but also how he is now going to be looked at by others.
