I'm sorry but last season's Fernandinho was an accident waiting to happen. The fact he started the last two games of the season is an absolute travesty that never should have happened. We nearly threw the league away because he could barely move anymore. Villa got up the pitch so easily in that first half of the last game of the season because they knew Watkins would beat him every time. Phillips is an automatic upgrade.

Given that neither were going to play many games due to Rodri being the undisputed first choice, I would've rather we just kept Fernandinho for one more year than sign an injury prone Phillips to be honest. I think he could've still done a job and his presence in the dressing room was invaluable.

Much as I love him, his legs are gone. Another year would have been too far for him.

We’ve lost a wealth of premier league experience in Zinc , Jesus , Sterling and Fern and replaced them with potential , which in my opinion makes us weaker .
