It would be an increase of length also I think mate.

From our POV he could play at a high level for another 5 years.

However, I can’t see him accepting that.

Any contract would have clauses in it either on release clauses or possibly even an option to only do 4 if he moves back to Portugal.

I imagine we will have to get inventive for him to sign it.

300K is fair with perhaps a signing on bonus recognising his contribution.

However, I think it will be more a clear plan on his future that is required for all parties more so then the money that will determine his decision.

If he signs a new contract means he will stay longer which is brilliant but seems weird that he wanted to leave for the last 2/3 years but now happy to sign a new improve contract? Oh are we just doubling his wages and still only has two years left?

No I think any contract would almost by default be an extension, as opposed to just a pay rise.

I can see why he would take it, even if he wanted to leave. If you think of all the extra money he has missed out on, while waiting for Barcelona to back their promises (while signing other players). And has stayed committed and put everything into it on the pitch. I think it is pretty much a case of the club happy to reward that because he has deserved it, him accepting he might as well take the money while here, and probably a mutual understanding that the club won't increase the asking price for him should Barcelona or someone he fancies joining come in for him. At the same time lets the club still insist on a reasonable fee. Just my reading of it.

Yeah can’t believe he is “only” on 150k a week which he was happy to sign 3 years back.. he should be in our top 3 of highest paid players for me..

Reading between the lines, I think he wanted to go to specifically Barcelona or Real Madrid. Real simply don’t need him. Or are saving their money for other targets..
Barcelona are a basket case of a club, with no money.,

If he wanted better weather and Spanish lifestyle, PSG is no closer to that than Manchester.

If he’s staying, it’s fantastic news.

I said it myself.....he wants to join Barca, more than he wants to remain put.

If that doesn't materialise, and its looking extremely doubtful given the cheap bent fucks are on their arse......he won't rock up at any old club,he'll be content to extend his stay here.

Agree.

Real Madrid targets younger midfielders nowadays and more focusing on pace than Barca/Man City style. They are building a team around younger players.

Barcelona does not need him as well. Bernado profile is similar to their academy products. Academy products may be not as good as Bernado (for now) but they cost zero. Barcelona tends to spend their budget on strikers or defenders.

Of course they won't reject free transfers.

Anyway even if Bernado transfers to Real or Barcelona, I don't think that they will build the team around Bernado or give Bernado a bigger role than what Bernado currently has at Man City, no matter when the transfer happens.

Taking Barca as example. Pedri and Gavi are their future and poster boys. I cannot image they are not started in biggest games unless unavailable. Then it only leaves one or two spots in the midfield and it has to be defensive midfielder and it has to be a taller one. On the right wing, Dembélé will start if he can. I don't see a spot available for Bernado in their starting line.
