That strongly reminds me of a passage from Trevor Griffiths' terrific play about would-be stand-up comedians learning their trade at night school somewhere in Manchester: Comedians. In it Ged Murray, who is a staunch blue, comments that if he came home and found Colin Bell in bed with the wife he'd mildly go and brew him a cup of tea.
