A wonderful, decent and humble man....
One of, if not the greatest goalkeeper of his own or any other generation of players....
A far truer reflection of the character of the German people than those who led him to fight for an evil cause 1939-45....
An ambassador for his broken nation...
And a standard-barer for a rebuilt nation in the land of their former foes...
An honorary Mancunian....
and a great loss.

Unfortunately I'm from the younger generation and never actually got to see Bert play live, but I have always listened to my dad say what an amazing player Bert was and his story alone is remarkable.
Today in my eyes the world has lost one of the most iconic sports stars post 20th century.

It doesn't matter mate. Bert would not have expected it anyway. I have a sneaky feeling the man will get wider recognition now he has died. People will read his book and the story of a remarkable man will become an inspiration outside of City fans.

Just mentioned him 20 seconds at most, pathetic, if the beeb can put on an hrs documentary about that knob beckham retiring I will be sorely pissed off if a proper tribute isn't arranged for as said the first foreign player to win player of the year, the greatest goalkeeper English football has seen and a man who had a positive impact on two countries recovering from war with each other and generally one of the most fascinating stories in football history
