Bert Trautmann Trophy

The interest is building . . . I took a call earlier today from John Gwynne (Sky Sports Darts commentator and Sky Soccer Saturday reporter) - he'd spotted the details of the Trautmann Trophy commemorative game and being a huge Bert and City fan he's offered his services on the day - possibly as PA/Compare.

He's also offered to compare our planned Commemorative Dinner later in the season! Brilliant news . . .

I have had email contact from Neil Billingham, a freelance producer who works for the official Premier League programme. He's asked for some additional information on the Bert Trautman Trophy match and there's a possibility he might be able get the Premier League Show to cover the event.

I can't find it on the official site, but I presume they will be selling tickets.

It is now on the official site . . . along with ticket details

Many thanks to Trevor Massey for agreeing to referee the Bert Trautmann Trophy game.

Trevor was promoted to the Select Group of Assistant Referees in 2000 and was appointed as an Assistant Referee to the 2005 FA Community Shield and the FA Challenge Trophy. The highlight of his career so far - Asia Trophy (July 2008) in Hong Kong and the FA Cup Final, May 2008.

Just got back from the ticket office after buying my ticket for the Bert Trautmann Trophy and the girl at the counter said it was the first one she had sold today. Of course the others selling along the counter could have sold a few but it is a good cause and should be a good game.

I am from Blackpool and Frank Swift, who I saw play many times, was my first goal-keeping hero.
However, I think that Bert Trautman was the best keeper I have ever seen, even to this day. I saw him at Bloomfield Rd. once and Blackpool (a top team of the day) took City apart. Score Pool 0 City 1, all down to Trautmans tremendous ability.

Was that the famous Evening News headline "Blackpool 0 Trautman 1"?

I suppose for most footy fans (Prem or Non-League) the next game is the most important so I think it will take a few days for the news of ticket availability to filter through. Our local newspaper (St Helens Star) did an interview with Bert on Monday and I am told we'll hit the back page for the first time in a few years when the paper is out later this week - we normally play second fiddle to St Helens Rugby League. I am also aware that the MEN were due to speak with Bert on Monday so hopefully something will come of that!

I think I am right in saying that the COMS Ticket Office will be open on the day of the match for people to essentially 'turn up and pay'!

Not sure if this is the right place to be asking (and apologies if it's not)?!

I am on the look out for sponsorship for the Bert Trautmann Trophy game - a Match Sponsor, Match Ball Sponsor and Programme Advertisers who will all recieve good publicity/coverage prior to the game and VIP treatment on matchday.

Whilst Manchester City have been extremely generous both financially and administratively there are still some matchday costs we will have to cover. Essentially any monies raised from sponsorship will help St Helens Town cover the costs involved in staging the fixture; any sum above the amount needed will be shared between the club and charities being supported.

If you can support us and the charities involved please contact me on 07976 059404 or email sthelenstownfc@hotmail.co.uk (or let me know if you have any contacts I could chase). As you can see from one of my earlier posts we produce a good quality match programme (available as an e-Programme).

Cheers

Chairman, St Helens Town

An update on sponsorship news and our thanks goes to Johnsons Toyota Liverpool, in particular General Sales Manager Gareth Shone, who have agreed to be the Executive Match Sponsor for the Bert Trautmann Trophy game, continuing their major support for St Helens Town this season.

We also welcome Hayton's Executive Travel (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.haytonstravel.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.haytonstravel.co.uk</a>) who have agreed to be our Match Ball Sponsor on the day - many thanks to Barry Hayton who is a huge Bert and Man City fan!

I'd also like to thank Chris Williams at Sportingold (<a class="postlink" href="http://www.sportingold.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.sportingold.co.uk</a>) who have taken programme advertising for the game.

Anyone else interested in programme advertising from £50? Contact John McKiernan on 07976 059404

Again, not sure if I should be asking on here (but it keeps the thread on the front page too!!)

Medals and Bert Trautmann Trophy

We are planning to present the players of both St Helens Town and Manchester City Legends with commemorative medals/memento following the fixture on Sunday 15th November along with a Trophy to the winning captain.

I am looking for a sponsor to cover the cost of purchasing them! You'll get an advert in the programme (full colour), some free tickets and VIP access at the game and your company name engraved on each medal and the Trophy? Again, We are not looking to make a profit from this, simply ensure costs are covered and the event goes smoothly! We will need 40-50 medals (players, officials, etc) along with the trophy - I have a supplier and at the moment it looks like costing around £250-£300.

Interested? - call John McKiernan on 07976 059 404 (sthelenstownfc@hotmail.co.uk)

Just received a copy of King of the Kippax (issue 173) from Dave Wallace - brilliant read and nice to see the article about Bert Trautmann becoming St Helens Town President make the back cover. Anyone seen it?

Dave has agreed to write a piece for the Trautmann Trophy commemorative programme.

I also believe the game got a mention in last night's programme - any details?
