Best and worst away day you’ve been on

York away (gave me a boil on my neck i was that down). Stoke away when the darkest day arrived (battling in their main stand helped rid some of the despair though). Skankfield for a quick fire double of 4-0 and 6-0 defeats.

Top 3 nights in Dusseldorf for Schalke. Loftus Road to see us win with 9 men. Mark kennedy screamer at Bolton when i was in their end (celebrated like mad on my own). Villa "strangeways riot day". Been mentioned earlier but Gidman at Huddersfield was a buzz. Bradbury's scorcher fron 8 inches at Millwall had all the old skool heads in the top tier down there bouncing, top night

Oxford away won 4-2 IIRC, stayed over and went on the piss quality weekend.

Brentford FA cup defeat started well but was miserable in the end; wet train to Olympia unlike dry to Euston, on the piss, shit game, back to Milton Keynes for more beer in that stupid pyramid place, train back to Watford to get last train north followed aggro from some six fingered wankers who got on Stoke going to Macc.
Just a mission in the end with a shit result in the middle.

Brighton away mid 80s - we hired a small Escort van - 4 of us - went in Brunswick in town and picked up another 3 blues we just met in pub - set off about midnight - just got on motorway and one of the lads we picked up threw up in the back of the van - smell was overpowering for next 180 miles - and the van broke down as we got through London - one of worst games of football I have ever seen and we got soaked stood in the open end in the corner.
At the time it seemed the worst - but for the crack and the memories
one of the best.

Remember a pre season friendly at Rangers in the mid seventies a great day out. Bears happy to drink with us in Glasgow and near lbrox. Went on the train and got no mither just friendliness and footy talk very unusual at the time.
In complete contrast was in Dublin for pre season game against Celtic in the late nineties nothing but mither all day a huge element of their support seemed to hate us for the crime of being English, ironic as a lot of them claim rag or dipper alliegance. In fairness most of the Scottish seemed ok, but the crowd from Belfast were scary. Game played at Tolka park which was like Edgly park before the Cheadle stand. Segregation non existent and thought it a result to get home in one piece. Thought they were also horrible at the Etihad in CL.
I was at that game mate and it was fuckin awful, one of the few times I have been worried about my safety at a game

Chelsea vs. Barcelona in the semi-finals of the 12 Champions League, Torres rushed into the half and scored solo and eliminated Barcelona to advance to the final. After suffering an incomprehensible misjudgment in the 2009 season, justice was late but finally arrived

The QPR game when Walsh scored with his face and we won with 9 men. Met some old friends and had a drink with them and one won 40 quid out of a fruit machine. Worst away was Wimbledon and getting beat 4:0 i think with Vinnie Jones just laughing at the City fans telling him he was not very good.

My best away match was. no surprise here, Newcastle away in 1968.

That match had everything; goals, excitement, drama, and the biggest prize.

City have had two or three last match title wins since, two over Liverpool and one over United. I was at the Etihad for the match against West Ham in 2014. City needed a draw but won 2-0. I had to watch the QPR in 2012 match on TV as with the win at Brighton in 2019.

The win at Newcastle was really special as City without a League title in 30 years beat United.

We drove up to Newcastle in the morning and got to the stadium very early. No all-ticket games back then! We got there first. I have no ideas if many were locked outside for the match but the City fans were certainly there.

The match swung one way and then the other. City would score and Newcastle would equalise. Then City went 3-2 and later 4-2 up only for Newcastle to score again. None of had a clue what was going on in the other match between United and Sunderland. It turnas out that Sunderland winning would have made City champions even with a loss at Newcastle.

Newcastle were no mugs and finished 10th in the table. This enabled them to qualify for and subsequently win the Inter-City Fairs Cup in 1968-69. I remain puzzled as to why they qualified from 10th place. As I understand the ICFC had a rule of one team from one City (a combined London team competed in 1955). City and United both qualified for European Cup (the latter as holders) and 8th place West Brom were in the Cup Winners Cup. The Fairs Cup had Liverpool in 3rd place, and the one team per City rule precluded 5th place Everton. Chelsea qyualified in 5th precluding 7th place Tottenham and 9th place Arsenal. It all makes sense apart from Newcastle qualifying ahead of 4th place Leeds?

Norwich away 6.1 , City were magnificent & scored 2 of the best goals of that season & thus started our 6 game run to the title , passing through a Scouse drenched London on the way back was fun as well.
Happy days .
