Best and Worst Cover Versions

And, as I'm on a roll with Bob, check out his cover of Roxy Music's 'Let's Stick Together' - truly awful. And I'm a fan (you might have noticed).
Roxy's version was a cover as was Canned Heat's (released before Roxy's). The original was by Wilbert Harrison.

I'm a big Radiohead, Hendrix, Stones, Floyd fan but after all these years, Judith Durham still reduces me to a quivering wreck. Her voice is fantastic on this cover of a Russian folk song:

Aaah , such an angelic voice , what a great song ....

I've been one of Judith Durhams biggest fans since i first saw the Seekers on telly back in 1966 as a young kid , and i'm off to see them next year at the Bridgewater Hall (Manchester) ...... the Seekers are said to be the only remaining group with the original line-up still in place , and her voice is fantastic , always has been.

Gary Numan with Fear Factory - I reckon it beats the original.

I instantly also thought Halelluia : best (Jeff Buckley) and worst (that bird off X-Factor)

Special mention to some black, american, male, soulsinging no-mark who comprehensively destroyed the Kate Bush classic This Woman's Work with his "vocal gymnastics"
.....according to google his name is Maxwell, Dear oh dear!

Yeah, so bad that Bush does her own rendition of the Maxwell cover on her "Director's Cut" album...

*shakes head*

How can an artist do her own rendition of somebody else covering HER own song??? Bizarre man.
I think what you mean is that Kate's "Director's Cut" version is nearer to Maxwell's effort
than her original one. But a tribute to it? I think not. In fact Kate Bush told me in confidence that 'this fucking joker singing my song is a pile of old wank !' - she's got a foul mouth on her at times.

p.s. What did you think of Frank Sinatra's rendition of Sid Vicious's cover of "My Way" ?

Clearly you are being deliberately thick.

If Kate Bush's newer adaptation is a very similar to the the covered version of her original, does that not make hers a rendition of that cover?? In other words, she respects Maxwell's interpretation of her song more than her own first version.

Maxwell's is the 'tribute', but hers is a nod back to that.
