This one has to be the worst surely.

I instantly also thought Halelluia : best (Jeff Buckley) and worst (that bird off X-Factor)

Special mention to some black, american, male, soulsinging no-mark who comprehensively destroyed the Kate Bush classic This Woman's Work with his "vocal gymnastics"
.....according to google his name is Maxwell, Dear oh dear!

Yeah, so bad that Bush does her own rendition of the Maxwell cover on her "Director's Cut" album...

*shakes head*

Anyway, I'm going for Embrace's covers of two rap songs from De la Soul and D12...

How can an artist do her own rendition of somebody else covering HER own song??? Bizarre man.
I think what you mean is that Kate's "Director's Cut" version is nearer to Maxwell's effort
than her original one. But a tribute to it? I think not. In fact Kate Bush told me in confidence that 'this fucking joker singing my song is a pile of old wank !' - she's got a foul mouth on her at times.

p.s. What did you think of Frank Sinatra's rendition of Sid Vicious's cover of "My Way" ?

I'm a big Radiohead, Hendrix, Stones, Floyd fan but after all these years, Judith Durham still reduces me to a quivering wreck. Her voice is fantastic on this cover of a Russian folk song:

PSB - Always on my mind.

Just reading through the thread and I see you beat me to it so I'll have to pick The Small Hours by Metallica unless someone else has already picked that one too.

Has anyone picked Downtown by Emma Bunton as the worst yet?

Ugly kid Joe did a really good version of cats in the cradle, but the worst by a country mile is All saints version of 'under the bridge'.They massacred a classic so much i can't listen to the original anymore

All Along the Watchtower by Hendrix is a genuine classic.

Zep's version of In My Time of Dying (an old gospel number) is awesome; including some of the greatest drumming you will ever hear.

Good call, although I prefer Dylan's version of 'In my time of dying'.
Hendrix arrangement of 'Watchtower' was subsequently adopted by Dylan, which is a huge compliment.

Possibly the greatest cover version of a Dylan song is Nina Simone's version of 'Tom Thumb's Blues'. And, as I'm on a roll with Bob, check out his cover of Roxy Music's 'Let's Stick Together' - truly awful. And I'm a fan (you might have noticed).
