Hard to believe I know.

Are you attempting humour or did you really think MWSTW was a Lulu original? You probably think Ian Hunter wrote All The Young Dudes.

Actaully that has reminded me of another couple of covers I rate highly:

Patti Smith's Because the Night

and

Blinded by the Light by Manfred Mann's Earthband.
Ok, you sussed me. Lulu's cover ain't too bad though.

In fairness, it wasn't but I prefer Nirvana's version to that and Bowie's original to both of them. One of my favourite Bowie albums from a time when he was my favourite artisite.

Contrary to an earlier post, I LOVE the Kirsty McColl version of A New England, and have little time for Billy "professional, working class Cockney" Bragg's original

In other contravertional news, I prefer A-ha's version of Crying in the Rain to Phil and Don's original. There's me getting a fucking from the music police

Other memorable covers (some not necessarily better)
The Rolling Stones Like A Rolling Stone
Bryan Ferry's Hard Rain's Gonna Fall
Jimi Hendrix Experience's All Along The Watchtower
Robert Plant's If I Was A Carpenter
Phil Collins' Tomorrow Never Knows
Blind Faith's Well Allright

and the Daddy of them all
well better than the Wee Pappa Girl Rappers

Yeah love Bowie myself, thought Nirvanas' cover was brill.

Best : metallica - Whiskey in the jar

Worst : scissor sisters - comfortably numb, will never understand why they were given permission to do that, heartbreaking stuff.

Best:

Metallica - Turn the Page
Guns N Roses - Knockin On Heavens Door & Live and Let Die
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watch Tower
Disturbed - Shout & Land of Confusion
Nirvana - Man Who Sold The World
Pseudo Echo - Funky Town
Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
Creedance Clearwater Revival - Proud Mary
Orgy - Blue Monday
Supra - Blue Moon
Johnny Cash - Hurt

Worst:

911 - Take On Me
Queen + Five - We Will Rock You
Alexandra Burke - Hallelujah
Band Aid 2 & 20 - Do They Know It's Christmas?

I am torn on Scissor Sisters - Comfortably Numb, the original is without doubt an all time great, but for sheer contrast in the way it's covered, it's worth some credit.

If you haven't heard it already, enjoy this! Natalie has the voice of an angel imho:

Best.

Worst.

Most of the songs The Beatles covered they improved upon in my opinion - Twist and Shout, You Really Got a Hold On Me, Roll Over Beethoven, Long Tall Sally etc.
