For me, the best Etihad atmosphere ever - and I was at both the Hamburg game and the CC semi 1st leg against the rags
first, almost everybody had reached their seats before the kick off - the noise when the teams came out, the poznan when the rags team was announced, the noise, the hostility, the 'blue moon' before the kick off - all top class
then during the game there was pretty much constant noise - usually there are fairly long periods without a great deal of noise - not last night.
then there was the roof coming off when Vinnie scored. I think we all knew how important the first goal was. Then half time came and it was fantastic
there were the choruses of 'invisible man' and 'blue moon' - and the hey jude at the final whistle was incredible. I have been to internationals at Twickenham and Wembley, I was at the final in May, and I have watched games here and in Europe - last night. Hey Jude was the loudest thing I have ever heard in a sports ground ever. In fact, it was probably the loudest thing I have ever heard that wasn't electronically amplified.
Two other things - first, this was the biggest league game certainly since that feller in the 70s suit painted the penalty spot on the pitch at Derby and possibly since Newcastle in '68. Second, 650 million people were watching. And the crowd responded absolutely magnificently. We were part of the team effort last night.
That is why, for me, last night was the best atmosphere I have ever experienced at the Etihad. But it can be even better against QPR...
