Best car you have ever owned

I'm not really fussed about cars - I just want one that's blue and has a nice interior.

I once got offered a car from my dad's mate, who was boss of a Renault garage, for £1200 as I needed something cheap. A Citroen BX diesel that they were struggling to shift. I think the power steering was a bit shot but it was a lovely car to drive as long as you didn't have too many tight turns. The seats were very springy but the odd jaunt to London was like sitting on a cloud. Better than my ex boss' BMW he lent me once.

Sold it a year later for £1500. The guy who bought it didn't even test drive it, said he just loved them.

Not the best looking car but the one I miss the most.

Tesla Model P85 backwheel drive. But not for winter driving on snowy tractor roads on the country side.
Chevrolet Tahoe

I had a Toyota Corolla, one made in Japan. Had it 12 years, did 180,000 miles, same clutch and exhaust when I sold it. It never let me down. Only ever had new tyres and brakes done. Gear box was smooth as silk.
We had one of those. Bought it off an old dear who worked for toyota so it had all the 'extras' (even got a boot full of spare parts. it had done 15k when we got it and when we eventually gave it to my dad it had done 120k with nowt spent on it except tyres and brake shoes. Would start after being left under snow at the airport for 10 days. dad put another 80k on it. Faultless

Sky blue Volvo P1800ES. Had to give it up because of storage issues but, without doubt, the most beautiful car I have ever owned.

Best car was the Ford Galaxy. Brilliant it was, captain seats in front was great for days out with kids.

A close second was my Polo G40 just because it looked like your nans shopping car but in the words of one road traffic officer “that’s blooming quick what is it?” as he was writing out my ticket.

On the other end of the spectrum I hated my BMW 5 series and Mrs MBs had a BMW 1 series I loathed - and Mrs MBs current car which is a Mini I also hate. Fucking awful cars and shit build quality.
Ford Galaxy.
Had a few of them.
The mk 1/2's were a bag of bits but the MK3 diesel was an absolute family tank able to do just about anything.

My most useful car for sure.

2010 Volvo XC90. Bought it in 2016, done 250k in it, and still bulletproof. (Hope I haven't hexed it now!).
You beat me to it. I have had all sorts over the years including Merc’s and BM’s. However I bought a 2022 XC 90 diesel 3 years ago and it is the most comfortable relaxing drive I have ever had. Even my Mrs feels comfortable driving it

Mine was a Mk1 1.9TDi (130bhp IIRC) 2002 plate sold it late 2005 when work took me to live in the US for a while. Never a spot of bother that I can recall but it wasn’t terribly old when I had it although had done some motorway miles (90k or so, nothing for a diesel) as I brought it about a year or so old from an airline who used to ferry aircrew around in it.

Brilliant car for family like you say and one that I still remember fondly.

Scion XB. Paid $18k for it new in 2008. Easy to drive, could park it anywhere and loads for room for hauling kids and stuff around. Just oil, brake and tyre changes when needed. Put 250k miles on it and sold it for $2k right as the second-hand car market peaked during Covid (lucky coincidence). So $16k for 13 years of mither-free driving. That’s never happened to me before and will never happen again.

Best car depends on definition of best.
Most fun - MGF 1.8ccv, never stopped revving, until it fell to bits
Overall bloody nice car BMW 3 series touring, lovely to drive, responsive and a bit tardis like
The one I'm keeping until it dies - Landrover disco sport HSE. Always liked landies, this is my third. Flawed without a doubt, out of date toys even when new, expensive to insure, poor economy, but when the apocalypse comes (Hello Donald) I'll be able to run away to places most people couldn't drive to :)

I'm not really a car person, but my best cars have been Toyotas, and over the last forty years there has always been at least one on the family.

A ballpark figure suggests half a million miles of driving the brand, and not one has ever gone wrong, not ever.

In fact the only non-consumable spend was to replace a slightly juddery clutch on an Aygo around five years ago. The bill was £300.00 which included and MOT and a service.

If I could only ever own one car it would be a RAV4. Had two previously, current one (2017 reg) will easily last another decade.
