Best Chippie

Scotland has loads. Any chip shop in England who use frozen chips and fish, should be taken from that place, to a place of execution and hanged by their necks.

You need to draw the line somewhere. I suggest there.
Some really good Scottish chippy's and some absolutely terrible ones. I remember staying in a rough as fuck place called Shotts. After a few pints in a hovel of a pub I went in the chippy opposite. I wasn't sure what to have so I asked. I was recommended to try a pizza crunch. So I agreed. The guy dipped it in batter and put it in the fryer. I said - "woah, I'm not eating that" and walked out still hungry.

No wonder you lot have more heart attacks than us English.

Is Armstrongs in North Manchester still going?
Yes, mixed reviews though. Some people say the Jumbo Cod might actually be goldfish. I haven’t been for a few years and it was nothing memorable then but others rave about it.

I think some of these places have good days and bad days. The best ones seem to be the ones that don’t open long hours every day, say 2 hrs lunchtime and 3 hrs teatime. Certainly in my experience it is.

I’ll repeat my recommendations…

Village Chippy, Stubbins near Ramsbottom
Bridge St Chippy, Ramsbottom

I don’t have them very often these days though.

I totally agree the quality of a chippy is usually inversely proportional to its opening times.

Can an admin please edit the spelling of chippy on this thread title? It’s setting teeth on edge.

Off to Filey for a few days early next month during the international break. Anyone got any good chippy recommendations for that part of the world?
Abbey Wharfe in Whitby. Top notch fish, sit upstairs overlooking the harbour, licensed and you can take the pooch in too. Leave The Magpie to the tourists.

We have more heart attacks because you fuckers keep voting in the Tories.

I’ve tried most of the chippy’s in Filey. I think the best is probably a sit down called CJs. It’s at the top of steep road that drops down to the prom and the sea.

The walk along the beach for miles is lovely towards Reighton Sands. You’ll see Billy Butlins mansion in the cliffs and the first Butlins is further up the coast.

There’s a lovely little cove south of Filey, that’s just like being in Cornwall, called North Landing. There’s a reasonably priced good quality food place on the ramp down to the sea called Boathouse Burger and Grill, it also sells big bottles of cold San Mig for about £2. They also do cheap boat trips along the coast, and you can hire paddle boards and kayaks from there too. The pub at the top of the ramp is a bit shit. It’s a nice walk in either direction along the cliffs from there.

There’s also another excellent but a touch pricey chippy in the village of Flamborough itself.

North of Filey I’d avoid Scarborough unless you’ve got kids that would like the brilliant waterpark called Alpamare. Their outdoor pool is like a hot bath, the water slides are great and you can have a beer poolside.

Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby (Mr Chips on the other side of the river is the best sit down chippy in Whitby) are both worth a visit. As are Pickering or Malton on the way home.
Cheers mate. We've been to Filey before (and Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay) but just not familiar with the chippy scene in Filey so some decent pointers there. Not been to North Landing but just had a peek and it looks mint. We went to Hunmanby Gap beach last time we were over there

Oxford St Staylbridge
Andy’s Hurst Cross
Both decent quality fish and chips.
