An overlooked great debut was Adebayor - away at Blackburn - scored a very good goal after about 5 mins and proceeded to pull their defence all over the pitch for the rest of the game. He looked a step above what we had seen as a forward for a good while on that day

Yeah, I was a bit dramatic there maybe. Remember the Liverpool game very well. My first trip to Anfield and first win. Didn’t suppose that 43 years later I’d still be waiting for the second one. Missed the Anelka one due to an incident in Liverpool before the game.

Didn’t realise we were top of the league either. We’d lost six times by then.

I think we were there somewhat by default as I think there had been a few cancelled games for the teams around us in December so we’d played a couple of games more than the teams around us when we won at Anfield iirc.

The best debut against us was surely Patrice evra. Came on as a substitute and was promptly subbed off. Think it was Sinclair that tore him a new one.
