Before Joe Hart was at the club during the ups and downs who would you say was the best keeper we had that could give Hart a run for the number 1 shirt in the current squad?

many.

swift
bert
coton.

I dont remember Coton i was only young when he played for City but my uncle who was a keeper used to rate him highly ive read about Swift and Bert in the books! But i do remember Immel and he played for City at the same time as Coton so i dont know how i have no knowledge on Coton haha

Trautmann was a better keeper than Hart. Never saw Frank Swift play, but by all accounts he was the dogs bollocks. Tony Coton was a more than useful stopper as well. And ofcourse Big Joe Corrigan, who had he played in another era would have racked up many more England caps.

Joe doesn't have a lot to compete with. Off the top of my head;
Margotson
Immel
Schmichael snr
Schmichael jnr
Seaman
Simpson
Nixon
Nash
Dibble

Some of those give me chills. Coton was good but not in joe's league. Weaver was good for us at the time but had too many faults (kicking and general distribution) is ever be top class.

Forgot about Schmichael obviously the best goalkeeper we have ever had but not the best for us
