Best City Goalkeeper?

Season ticket holder since early 80s, so Coton, Schmeichel and Hart in that order.
But Corrigan was brilliant, but I only saw him play a few times in the 70s!

Joe doesn't have a lot to compete with. Off the top of my head;
Margotson
Immel
Schmichael snr
Schmichael jnr
Seaman
Simpson
Nixon
Nash
Dibble

Some of those give me chills. Coton was good but not in joe's league. Weaver was good for us at the time but had too many faults (kicking and general distribution) is ever be top class.

Forgot about Schmichael obviously the best goalkeeper we have ever had but not the best for us

Yes, I should have been clearer-my list only referred to when playing for us. No doubt Schmichael in his prime was the best of a generation.

Big Joe was always one of my heroes growing up, and i ended up playing keeper for 25 years in local football. First trip to Maine Road was in 75 against QPR, ended 0-0 and big Joe pulled off a brilliant save from a headed corner to keep it that way. Always remember the save from Alan Clarke (i think), against Leeds when he was going the wrong way- was save of the season that year

joe corrigan was the reason i became a goalkeeper,my hero as a young boy, however the best goalkeeper we have had since ive been watching would be Schmichael ,if you get a chance watch the liverpool v city game when we beat them 2 -1 cant remember the year but as weve only beat them once in the last god knows how mny years at anfield it shouldnt be hard to find.

after him joe hart will become the greatest weve ever had on the back of being the most successful, imo

I understood how it was put mate and i agree with you, i think anybody who watches football knows that Schmichael was the best of his time and i know people say maybe Oliver Kahn was but for me Schmichael was the best!

Tommy Wright was a decent keeper

I've always thought we have been quite lucky with goalkeepers. From what I hear, Margotson was the only real shocker. Kasper Schmeichel was by no means bad. In recent times we have relied on James, Isaksson, Given, Weaver and Schmeichel Snr (past his best but still better than most). We've also had very good back ups (Nash, Arason). We have a much better keeper record than them lot across town.

Frank Swift (before my time) and Bert Trautmann (just finishing career).

Plus one in my time: Joe Corrigan.

Schmeichel Senior and David Seaman would definitely have made it we were talking of whole career but were past their best when they joined us.

Wish I could agree with you but Schmeichel and Van Der Saar would be right up there in all fairness.

Yeah, of course. But they've had some proper shitters too. Barthez and Taibi spring to mind, Carroll being rather poor, and Lindegaard was called "not good enough" by Schmeichel. Jury's out on De Gea too, he makes a lot of high profile errors.

Joe Corrigan for me. My footie hero growing up as i also played in goal, before switching to the wing due to lack of height!
