Best DMC in the world!!

We're a team that is basing our strategy around possesion.

NDJ breaks up play when the opponent has the ball and ensures we keep it when it's in his possesion. If i was a manager looking for a DM, he would be at the top of my list.

Looking from this season, he's shown as Martin Jol said, that he is capable of contributing going forward too. Those who call him one dimensional have probably never even thought that our manager has asked to play a certain way; his mentality and discipline are great intangible assets and his ability on the field imo, is there for everyone to see and most to appreciate.

Exactly

You would therefore expect De Jongs pass sucess rate to be 100% or close to if he wins the ball and passes it simple. Well you would expect it to be higher than our other midfielders anyway. And as a defensive midfielder you would expect him to have more interceptions than others. And to have more tackles and more sucessful tackles than other midfielders as well wouldnt you.

Want me to go on?

I like to think I don’t go OTT re De Jong, but I just wanted to pick up on your post.

Diaby – he is not a holding midfielder at all. Never has been. He does not play in that position. His strength is his athleticism not his defence. As I stated on a thread the other day, he is vastly overrated. He simply runs with the ball until he is tackled. No Arsenal supporter I know rates him.

Khedira – overrated. Yes, I know he is now at Real but he had a good WC but looked no better than average before then. In the WC, it was Schweinsteiger that ran the midfield. Khedira simply built on the foundation of Schweinsteiger’s great work. As for Khedira, his passing, like NDJs, isn’t great. Let’s give it a bit more time and see how he does in Spain rather than judge him in a WC. Would he have been selected for the WC if Ballack and Borowski were fit?

De Rossi – one of those players I have never seen have a great game. Based on the performances I have watched, he is vastly overrated. I have just never understood the fuss.

Lassana Diarra – is this the same Diarra that that was brushed aside when we beat Portsmouth 6-0? Diarra is good but not world class by a long-shot. There are at least two French holding midfielder’s who are better.

Melo – good WC but has been dreadful in Serie A. I think he was voted something like ‘worst new signing’ last season following his move to Fiorentina.

Mascherano – IMO a very good DM. Reads the game well and he is like a brick wall. Not a great passer by any stretch but not as bad as people think.

Lol, De Jong is the only player one-dimensional enough to be called a DM.

A DM does not mean that you solely tackle and are awful with the ball at your feet.

These DMs are all comfortably better than De Jong.

Shweinsteiger
Cambiasso
De Rossi
Moussa Sissoko
Mohamed Sissoko
Alonso
Mascherano
Busquets
Diarra
Pirlo
Essien
Javi martinez

end of the day, if we have de jong sitting in front of the back 4, we give a lot more freedom to the players infront of him. for example, it gives a player like silva freedom to run riot up the pitch (similair to aj and milner) without having to have a constant worry of having to track back. he dosent get forward, but it isnt his job.like i say, its to give creative players the freedom to create... and for that reason he is needed

NDJ will prove his worth when we have attacking full backs. Then I might say he should play ever game. But at the minute with Lescott/richards/zab the only available full backs we dont need him against some teams. Our defense on its own should be able to handle their attackers and our midfield should be better than theirs and cope with any runners - they should be more worried than us basically.

When AK and Boateng are in the team NDJ may have a pivitol no mater who the opposition is - when they arent playing maybe he isnt always required
