The original plan was to have the final moment be the panning shot across the ocean, leaving the question mark for the audience of if Red and Andy ever did see each other again

I often like it when a film isn't nicely wrapped up at the finale (think No Country For Old Men), but in the case of Shawshank I think the ending was fitting for the film.

I just think that would have been better.

I've never had the opportunity to watch the Korean version - only the American remake. I thought it was a great film.

I'll make an effort to see the original.

Silent Running........I do think sad or less compromising endings stay with you more than something neatly and happily wrapped up.
