Had a half decent one about three years ago after a game as I was led there by the person I went to the match with, but it was no better than that, and that’s definitely an outlier; it’s really gone downhill over the course of this century.
The commercial rents along the strip got silly about twenty years ago which seemed to lead to a race to the bottom. I also wonder if our move from Maine Road played a part, not just because of fewer numbers of punters before and after games but also because of the huge reduction in viable drinking establishments in the area which means people need to travel there simply for a meal rather than after a local night out.
Another factor will have been the shift in core student housing away from terraced houses towards purpose built accommodation blocks which are much less a part of the local community, along with the huge increase in the number of students from South East Asia who are less likely to got out for a curry after a few years.
Things change, nothing lasts forever.
