Against us, the best performance I have ever witnessed was Zola for Chelsea at Maine Road in 2002-ish.

They beat us 3-0 and Zola was phenomenal.

Chelsea took him of after 70 minutes or so and the whole ground gave him a standing ovation.

Then, cos it was pissing it down and we were in the Gene Kelly, we fooked off home - City were never gonna score that day!!

This is the one I was going to say. He got a standing ovation from most of the ground that day

2000- 2001 Paul Merson got standing ovation when playing for Villa.

Ali B against Wednesday in the 2-6. The man was phenomenal in front of a massive away following........I can still here the chants of Ali, Ali...........

An amazing performance from an amazing player.

Have similar memories of this one, remember terry Henry making dunnie look silly at Maine road a few times. Also Aguero's debut was pretty special, I remember walking out of that game thinking we have signed a superstar, don't think he has really lived up to that yet with the exception of Qpr and rags away

Do any of you die hard blue ever remember playing Port Vale away Kinkladze played and absolutely destroyed the opposition he totally controlled the game at one point he had 3 played running around after him ad he megged one then got hacked also weaver Ipswich was a great battle with wright

Gio against Newcastle shades Wanchope at Leeds and Dribble at home 2 Villa

He was unbelievable that day , he was jaw droppingly awesome

A few of the main ones have already been mentioned.

Some others from me

SWP v Arsenal at Highbury

Gaudino v Liverpool at Maine Rd

Rocastle v Norwich at Maine Rd (I think it was his debut)

Rosler in the 3-2 win v Blackburn at Ewood Park, that win helped the rags win the league but ensured our safety.

McManaman v Villa.................Oh what promise.

Wanchope was one of the best individual City performances I've seen. Weaver against Ipswich is a good call. Berbatov against us for Tottenham but I remember being blown away by Jurgen Klinsmann in the 5-2 game and Domitrscu was bloody good that day. I remember Peter Barnes getting a 10/10 one game can't recall who against though and Denis Tueart v Notts County one evening game I think when he scored 3 or was it 4?

It was 4 mate in a 5-1 win, County top of the old 2nd division, us bottom of the first, gutter press hoping for an 'upset', Dennis was just awesome that night, so direct, powerful, gritty and aggressive, there was no stopping him.

Have to say Benarbia first half at home to a good Newcastle side, he was just another level above some VERY good players, gutted we never got to see Ali in his prime for us.

Vinny in the rag busting 4.1
Hart v Dortmund.
Dzeko v spurs 5-1 outstanding.
Carraghers v ac Milan champs lge final.
Shauny away at wolves he scored 2 got booted all over the park by Alex Rae the ****. We won and got promoted.

-- Sat Oct 05, 2013 11:51 am --

Steve fkn Cherry, Notts County goalkeeper in the FA Cup when they got an injury time winner and we STILL had time to hit the bar (Quinn I believe).

Also against us, the whole Arsenal team that night they were 4-0 up in 17 minutes at Maine Road.

For us, Benarbia at Sheff Wed, Kompany home to United Champions year, White at home to Liverpool when we beat them 2-1, Saunders missing a penalty.
Nots county I was at that game sad day lots of fighting on the bridge outside

Ali B debut
Was that the 6-0 or 6-1 against Birmingham?
It was a 3-0 win against Birmingham in the league. We beat them 6-0 in the League Cup a few weeks later.

And while I agree about Weaver against Ipswich, can I give him a shout for his performance in a 1-0 win at Charlton?

Opposition: Inler for Napoli stands out in my mind, but I was also astounded by Joe Cole for Chelsea one year. Although I couldn't watch it, I have reason to believe Schweinsteiger was exceptional on Wednesday?

Us: Hart vs Dortmund, Tevez vs United (Carling Cup semi) or Vinny when we won 1-0 and he scored the winner.

For us: Kompany v United x 2
Hart v Dortmund
Bell v United x 4

Against us: Gordon Banks (even though he cost us the title)

Wanchope at Leeds in 2001

He was simply superb, played up front on his own and kept their whole back line occupied throughout the game, they just couldn't get the ball off him

Paul Merson for Aston Villa against us. He single handedly ran the whole the whole show from start to finish.
He got a standing ovation from all round the ground when he was subbed 10 minutes before the end.
It was a genuine master class.

The full Arsenal Team that beat us 0-5/6 ?? at Maine Road in the early 2000`s.They actually got a standing ovation from us at half time, leading 0-4 and you couldn`t pick out one individual as the fookers were superb.

I remember Henry going over to take a corner on the Main / North stand part and getting a standing ovation from over there. The atmosphere in the second half was strangely brilliant. The Kippax and North Stand chanting at each other over the top of the slightly bemused Arsenal fans. The Kippax shouting 'Who the f#cking hell are you?' To which the Arsenal fans started to respond before realising it was being aimed at the City fans in the North stand at the other side of them.
