Best music decade

70's or 80's for me. Most of my favourite records were made then, don't think I could choose one over the other.

Having seemingly touched a nerve over Tolmie's over reliance on poor 80s bands I thought I'd start a thread on the best music decade

For me it is the Seventies
From the heavy rock of Deep Purple, Humble Pie, Led Zeppelin.....
To the progressive rock of Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes, Gong, Caravan...
the rebirth of the Stones, Bob Dylan...
The American rock of Bruce Springsteen, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith....
Through to the American new wave of New York Dolls and the Ramones
To the explosion that was punk with the Pistols, the Clash, the Jam, the Damned, Buzzcocks
And the emergence of Joy Division and the Cure

Whilst filling the airwaves and charts with glam rock of TRex, Slade, Sweet, Rod Stewart and Roxy Music.

I hate disco and soul so I've deliberately left them out

Stuff your 80s New Romantics, U2 and the Roses one decent album up your arses.

Agree up to the dismissing the 80's .... some great music and bands came from that decade too.

Indie music grew into something special for me, with bands like the Teardrops, Bunnymen, Japan, Icicle Works, Cocteau Twins, New Order and suchlike really doing their best stuff .... then there was a great mob from the US .... 'The Paisley Underground' movement, bands like The Dream Syndicate, The Long Ryders, True West, REM, Rain Parade, Let's Active, Bangles, Green On Red .... and on it's fringes, Lone Justice, The Church, Hoodoo Gurus then X, Husker Du, Pixies came next from it all .....

Prince made some of the finest music of the 80's ....

Hard Rock went a bit doolally yeah, some of the daft OTT hair metal shite, but there was some great stuff there too, Ozzy's first few albums, Hanoi Rocks, Black Crowes (more 90's, but started in 80's) Journey's classics, Dave Lee Roth, Dan Reed Network, Jane's Addiction, Drive She Said, Dear Mr President, ... even Motley sodding Crue managed a few decent albums ... so equal love for 70's and 80's fer me ...

Absolutely perfect.... Think this starts and ends the thread!

Age
70-80 = 1955 - 1965
60-70 = 1965 - 1975
50-60 = 1975 - 1985
40-50 = 1985 - 1995
30-40 = 1995 - 2005
20-30 = 2005 - 2015

Check your age, that should be you preferred music era as this tends to be the best part of your life, first real relationship, first lads/girls holiday, passing your driving test, becoming a adult, your first home etc....life seems exciting as everything seems fresh so your on top of life and live it to the max. you hear songs from that era you immediately remember something that makes you smile.

Anything older will be you memories from family life dad, mum etc so you can relate to it.

anything newer it just won't have the same affect as you feel music was so much better back then.

thats my take on it anyhow :)

I cant believe you didn't mention the best band to ever walk this planet, QUEEN...

But for me it has to be the 80's
