Best players never to win the world cup

I suppose guys like Best, Giles, John Charles, Kenny Dalglish etc must be mentioned but - in fairness - they were never likely to win the World Cup representing such small countries We could possibly add Cryuff to this list - and the likes of Weah, Yaya and Lev Yashin for other reasons.

With that in mind, I'll name some great players from countries that have won the trophy but those guys weren't born at the right time:

Platini (could have said Papin too, to be fair)

Socrates (or possibly Eder? I seem to remember him being amazing)

Trautman (might be my City bias kicking in but hey, if Yashin, Banks and Wilson all described him as the greatest...)

Shilton (mention also for Scholes).

Rossi didn't win one, did he?

Dunno about Uruguay but I really can't bring myself to include Suarez.

Then again, I've left out Puskas, di Stefano and Stoichkov, haven't I? And that Mexican lad that broke all those records with Real Madrid... Could be here all night.
