Best Starting Lineup Next Season

GK - Ederson

RB - New RB
CB - Dias
CB - Gvardiol
LB - Ait Nouri

CM6 - Rodri
CM8 - Reijnders

RW - Cherki
CAM - Foden
LW - Marmoush

ST - Haaland

GK - Ederson

CB - Dias
CB - Gvardiol
LB - Ait Nouri

CM6 - Rodri
CM8 - Reijnders

RW - Cherki
CAM - Foden
LW - Marmoush

ST - Haaland
Looks like the right answer to me. If Foden is as ineffective as he was last year i'd be ok playing Nico and having a 3 in mid or playing Doku on the right and cherki in CAM.

Edderson (we may sign a replacement)
Nunes (hope we sign a first class starter and Nunes is backup) - Dias - Gvardiol - Ait Nouri
Rodri
Reijnders - Cherki
Foden - Haland - Marmoush

I wonder if Reijnders will play further forward like Gundogan years ago leaving Gonzalez to help Rodri in CM. Late runs into the box etc.

......................Ederson......................
Nunes Khusonov Gvardiol AitNouri
..................Rodri Gonzalez ..............
...Cherki .......Reijnders ...Marmoush
.......................Haaland ...................

I suspect just as before any recent signings the key challenge is how to get the most of Haaland. If he plays in the box alone imo he is goosed. Too static and he is goosed. Stand at the back post for headers, goosed.

The answer imo is to have him in the box as little as possible like the way a basketballer has only a few seconds in the paint.

He needs those tireless runs back. Hopefully the new guys can help him on that front.

(It was souldestroying last season to see him give up running because no one in midfield bothered passing. Why I want the chef offenders replaced in the starting 11 or gone - Akanji, Dias, Bernardo, Gundogan, Kovacic etc would just not look up when in midfield. Hopefully that's gone this season)

IMO - our biggest challenge is getting the best out of Cherki.

He appears to have lost the hunger, too much going on off the pitch I fear.

He's commented on both his physical and mental health struggles. He hasn't lost the hunger, he's just found it difficult to stay physically fit and overcome the mental struggles he's had.

I'm confident he'll be back to his best next season. I think a lot of the players had similar struggles and needed us to press the reset button.

The ability to move the ball quickly through the lines, before the defence setup, is going to be key. Having creative types with legs is going to be so much better. Having Rodri back giving the security and trust to free up Foden, Cherki, Marmoush, Reinjdeers - all playing through balls to the big man - I believe!

My soul was crushed watching last season's games so I can't say I believe but I do hope so.

I’d like to see us move back to rhe back 3
Ederson
Khus Dias Josko
Rodri Reijnders
Cherki Foden Marmoush Ait-Nouri
Haaland

Realistically it’ll probably be something like
Ederson
Nunes/new right back Dias Josko Ait-Nouri
Rodri Reijnders
Cherki Foden Marmoush
Haaland

I think Cherki and Foden interchanging will be absolutely unstoppable.

It's not just the starting lineup, it's the fact that we'll have killer options off the bench again.

The increase in subs has made it a lot harder to break down a low block because you can basically refresh the entire back line throughout a game. It's like 90 minutes is divided into playing two different teams.

I'd expect to see Cherki used as an impact substitute in the near term.

It's quite hard to say because the new signings look great, but it doesn't always work out that way. Assuming the three cement themselves as first teamers, I'd probably have Bernardo playing central) instead of Foden, and Cherki coming off the wing.

Foden has some work to do to get back to being in the strongest 11.

Also probably Akanji for Nunes against a top side with a genuine attacking threat, as good as Nunes has been lately.

Ederson
Akanji Dias Gvardiol Ait-Nouri
Rodri. Bernardo
Cherki. Reijnders. Marmoush
Haaland
