Best Striker in World football?

Drogba won the Champions league almost single-handed last season, just saying. If you compare his performance vs Barca to Ibra's last season there's no contest. Not that I would pick Drogba to have in my team for a league campaign but in a cup final I would rather have Drogba than probably any other striker.

Lol....have you even heard of "Billy the Fish".......Drogba, my arse.

Ibra at 22 years old wasn't able to score goals. He had fantastic skills already but he improved when he moved to Inter.

22 years old Ibra scored 13 goals and produced 7 assists in 22 Eredivisie matches. ;)
Eredivisie is a strikers paradise, lots of players have great scoring records there but aren't as prolific when moving to one of the big leagues.

Lot of them but not Ibra ;)

-- Mon Feb 18, 2013 5:19 am --

Van fucking Persie.

I personally wouldn't consider Zlatan Ibrahimovic whilst he's playing in France

He is on almost goal or assist per game in whole his career. Ibra, you know, did not become world class after scoring vs England, he was world class in years before that though most of England didn't have idea :)

Drogba did not win the CL on his own.

He did a job, one of the hardest jobs, very well.

Playing against a group of 3-5 defenders, back to goal, 50-60 yards from goal, with his all of his outfield team-mates a further 20-30 yards behind him and of course Cech in goal.

Cech was magnificent, real good saves, and Drogba conceded 2 penalties, 1 each vs Barca (@ the Camp Nou) and in Extra Time in the final vs Bayern.

Either of those penalties go in (1 saved 1 crossbar) and they lose - because of him.

Yes, he was magnificent, penalties or not, but when you've got Bosingwa playing CB and actually looking like a boss, Ramires at RB, 10 men at the hardest team to beat in the last few decades, at their home ground, it's not just 1 man. Messi couldn't have done what Drogba did that day, perhaps only Ibra and maybe RvP had the skill set - of being great aerially (lots of players could do this decently but few 'greatly') and then holding the ball up against a couple of defenders. All of those 3 players can do something against a couple of defenders i.e. they have quick feet, can draw fouls or actually hold the ball up for a long time.

Someone like Crouch would be better than all of them (except Ibra) at getting the ball, but does he have the chest control + ability to dribble/win fouls/beat a man, till Lampard comes up for a pass?

I mean, Mata didn't do squat, but everyone else did.

Chelsea are the best game raisers in world football in the CL.

Cole's poor to average to decent most of a season, but you can depend on him in a big match. This season, this worked against him - if he doesn't play well consistently he's going to maybe not BE in those big matches at the end of the season. Cech is similar, although for him it's probably not a 'I'm the dogs bollocks' syndrome.

Point is, more than Drogba 'game raised.' Drogba had very few goals before the end of the FA cup and CL stages. Worse than what Aguero and co. were doing.

This is a very good question.

The stats seem to point towards Ibra, having been a sucess in 4 differnet countries. You COULD, possibly, argue that his time with Barcelona wasn't as succesful as it should have been, given he was playing for the best side in the world. As great a player I think he is I do have my doubts that he could do it regularly in the PL.

IMO, although the PL may not be the best it is certainly the toughest league in Europe and to score regularly you need to be a truly great striker. Quality strikers from the PL who go abroad do well (even Owen who had the season highest ratio of goals scored to number of minutes played for Real).

For that reason I have to go with RVP. That hurt to say.
