Downfall not been mentioned yet. The Hitler in the bunker scene is epic.
Saving private Ryan is up there for the historical accuracy of the opening scene and much of the film in terms of getting things about right. However it's let down by the plot to an extent. Not a film but Band of Brothers is by far my favourite war thingy.
I like Telemark as well, usually on over Christmas. Based on true story but far from accurate apparently.Saving private Ryan is up there for the historical accuracy of the opening scene and much of the film in terms of getting things about right. However it's let down by the plot to an extent.
Band of brothers was the same production team and Tom Hanks involved and it was very much the same quality of accuracy. And a better plot as it followed a real life story of a company where many survived the war so lots of 1st hand accounts and documentation of what happened.
War films don't really need a plot.
A great example is the heroes of telemark. It's not a great film. But the story is bonkers. That's 1 film I'd like to see remaid.
Schalke fans.Das Boot is the first that comes to mind.
No film but very few TV series could ever match The World at War. One of the very few DVD collections I’ve kept (Sopranos being the other).
Opening and closing credits with various faces melding into each other - chilling. The theme to that always shits me up. Great series though.
Both absolute classics.Went the day well. 1942
The Cruel Sea. 1953
Sink The Bismarck
The Battle of the River Plate (Pursuit of the Graf Spee)
I've been to the Vemork plant in Rjukan during winter when I was over in Norway ice climbing a few years back. How the team managed to make those mission a success in such harsh conditions can never be overstated.Saving private Ryan is up there for the historical accuracy of the opening scene and much of the film in terms of getting things about right. I’ve not seen the remake of this from 2022, I’ve looked on YouTube but the only version I can find is in German:(All Quiet on the Western Front.
