To say we've not got any midfield players who are capable of holding is possibly underestimating the strength of a utd midfield being constantly in your face. In the right temperature some of the Utd midfields i've seen over the years would mither the ball of an all star Brazilian team and so suggesting Johnson is the answer when returning the compliment is so obviously the antidote to that forthright style.....is a convienent way of not admiting your style needs an injection of the hurry up . Truth is we stood it down the middle and Bridge did better than ok, but to really take on a team like UTD then you need to be able to pass with speed and accuracy and we still have players who allow that tempo to break down even when unchallenged. Got nowt to with not employing holding players.

Suddenly deciding to simply stand still on the pitch with the ball at your feet is also not a tactic that will work with a rampant-half-time -lambasted UTD around.
 
This is bollocks - it was nothing to do with holding in the midfield - Tevez and SWP and Bellamy are five foot f*ck all. therefore balls sent above chest height were never going to be won and we then could not hold on until the mid field caught up. we missed manu and rsc

im not having a go at any body and ilove this bloke but it was barrys worst game for us today . and that was the difference in our performance today. but we will learn from this and move on to bigger and better things
 
Fucking Johnson!!!!! Johnson isn't going to get anywhere near that team and he isn't the reason we got beat today. De Jong was quality today and Barry has been our best player so far.
We have just gone to the home of the champions and the 2nd best team in Europe and scored 3 and were only beaten by a ref playing next goal the winner as long as they play in red! And without our best 2 players!
Being naieve cost us today. Instead of trying to play it from the back it should have been booted into the corner.
If anything today as reinforced my belief that we will finish above Arsenal and maybe Liverpool. This game a little too early in the season for us. Let's see how we bounce back from this in the next few games. But FFS Johnson!!!!
 
I think the OP is suggesting that we sometimes need to slow the tempo and hold the ball. we're set up to counter with the pace of Bellers and SWP so we're constantly looking for them - worked great against Arsenal not so much today because there was no one like Manu to hold it up so we kept hitting it wide looking to exploit the pace of SWP & Bellamy but there just wasn't any accuracy in the passing. At 2-2 the game really needed slowing for a while but we kept looking to break however united are experts at playing that pressure in midfield game and we were almost coping with it. Ultimately though we lost the game through poor defending at set-pieces. with Manu or RSC playing today I think we'd have won
