Imagine if there weren’t these big money benefits and people had to get a job within a certain period or got struck off the rolls?

“Free money” will always attract corruption and theft! The UK is not unique in this area.

Just looking at the various outlets where the emphasis is on their nationality over the actual crime.

They are being rightly prosecuted but no need to emphasis nasty foreigners stealing our cash etc.

As far as I'm concerned they are welcome to it. At least they showed a bit of get up and go and initiative which is more than the feckless native benefits scroungers can muster.

I was working at DWP when the pandemic hit and we were deluged by UC claims virtually overnight. We were processing 10x the number of claims we'd normally receive.

Rightly or wrongly, the decision was made to lower the identity verification barrier in order to get financial help to people quickly. This was successful, and we processed the hugely increased volume of claims.

The people to blame are those who wilfully took criminal advantage of this, not the DWP.

This scam went on for 4.5 years which, coincidentally, is about the time it's taking them to 'reassess' my mrs claim..
