Birmingham bankrupt

Yeah but it's kind of dying really. Everything is online. I mean I only get takeout menu's. Not sure it needs to be nationalised. Plenty of courier competition.

Could ve wrong though
Believe it or not, the post office delivers parcels the same as courier companies. They also have had the infrastructure in place for around 400 years. The dividends are crippling the company. Anyway, hopefully I'll escape soon. I'm a FOC.
With luck that's my final word, I'm off to the joke thread

Don't the bosses want to hive parcels off from letters then renege on the Universal Service Obligation for letters and try and have a variable rate so like a letter from London to Brighton will be a 10p stamp a letter from London to Orkney require the sale of one organ to raise funds

That’s where most of the privatised companies fall short as they have no interest in serving the public, it’s all about lining their own and shareholders pockets.

You may believe in them, but my sense is that you are culturally hostile to pragmatic solutions that could improve things.

Equally, I don’t know you and this is just my opinion based on your posts which may not be a true reflection.

Public services should always be run by government with the sole intention of providing the very best services possible.

We should all welcome that and be willing to pay for it.

Yes

Birmingham council is just the tip of the iceberg and has made big news because they are a huge City. This is happening across the country and it’s only a matter of time. We can all look at individuals running the finances and those that spend them but the reality is that they’ve all been cut to the bone from central financing and when you had other issues, including Brexit, then it’s a recipe for disaster.

It‘s not one factor, it’s a multitude that has led to where the country is as a whole but the one factor common in all this is a succession of governments who have chosen to take money away from local government and feed into some unknown black hole.
