Birmingham bankrupt

£760 million to pay 170 claimants, wish I'd been under paid / under valued, nice little £4.5 million back pay.
They were the test case. The number of people benefitting run into thousands.

Don’t you think women should get equal pay then?

We live in a very complex society that has to be governed and run otherwise we descend into chaos and anarchy, if you cut funding to public services this is what you get.

Little things we take for granted like having rubbish collected, keepin the streets clean educating our children, sports and recreation (very important for the wellbeing of society) to run well it all costs money and a lot of money at that, and that's not including our health services which are failing massively because of reduced funding

The debate that's needed is not who can provide cut just enough to keep the country running, but are we willing to pay for world class services?

Another big issue is whether the structures and staff within Local Government are up to the job. Same applies to the Civil Service. The inevitable restructuring will be a massive, massive task. Everything has been allowed to drift while we’ve been members of EU, ticking off their mandates. We have been lazy big time. It will need a lot of debates, money and new thinking.

You say that mate, but I honestly wonder at times the cost and effort required to maintain certain services. Take Rubbish being collected as an example, I do a lot of work in inner city brum and the fly tipping I see first hand is absolutely off the scale. I'm sure it's the same in Manchester. The cost of maintaining and clearing the areas alone to keep them relatively clean would be an absolute drain on resources. Every gap in housing is stacked with all sorts of rubbish

My mate installs Solar panels and a lot of work comes through the government green deal, I could give countless examples of work either not going ahead or being delayed due to the amount of shit being fly tipped in alleyways making it impossible to get scaffolding up. And often people can't be arsed to move it when it comes to it. People that have started the claim in the first place. Infuriates me areas that I've grown up in my entire life lacking any pride whatsoever, can't blame authorities for that.

It’s as much about the cuts as it is equal pay. Plenty of well run councils are pretty much screwed too, wouldn’t be surprised to see quite a few having to do this over the coming months.
