Birmingham bankrupt

Seems it’s all down to those pesky women winning an equal pay lawsuit a few years ago in 2012.
Appears Brum couldn’t run properly without paying them less than men.
Glad to see the council get its comeuppance.

The Times says It is struggling to pay off a huge equal pay bill brought on after it was sued at the Supreme Court in 2012 by 170 teaching assistants, cleaners and catering staff — mainly female — who once worked for the council. It has already paid £1.1 billion to settle historical claims.
The Labour-run authority said its bill for the claims was increasing at a rate of £5 million to £14 million per month. The council’s entire revenue budget last year was in the region of £750 million, which is spent on services in the city of 1.1 million people.

Same shit, different shovel. Why are you trying to make it Lab v Con thing, it's a crap management thing !
Just don’t remember you commenting on that thread, or the Thurrock one etc.

13 years of austerity is crippling the country. It’s all councils that are struggling. Some are going pop. They all will without more investment sooner or later.

£760 million to pay 170 claimants, wish I'd been under paid / under valued, nice little £4.5 million back pay.

Ignore my post above, talking bolloxs, apparently over £1 billion has already been paid out, £760 million is the estimated balance left to pay, nice work if you can get it.
