Black manager.

I suspect Andy Cole hasn't been given a chance to manage a club because he was renowned for spending his entire career sitting on his own in the changing room/on the bus with headphones on and not communicating with anyone. Not ideal management material really.

But of course it's his skin colour holding him back and not his introvert reputation.

Viv Anderson in talking shit shocker.

Nowhere on the planet is 'dog eat dog' more apparent than in football. Results are everything and more. There isn't one chairman out there who, if he thought a black coach or black manager could move his team three places up a league, wouldn't have offered him the job by now.

I'd have said almost exactly the opposite. Football is one of the most obvious 'old boys networks' around, with the same old faces churning through numerous jobs.

Results are primarily down to the money spent by each club, with only marginal influence from a manager.

Paul Ince did a great job and should surely replace Capello
That would be quite contraversial. Having a gay England manager.
good idea, if you want england to play like macclesfield, but if it class you want you gotta look elsewhere. clearly there is no one of the callibre upto the job, if we start doing it just to be PC then we might as well pack up and go home.

-- Thu Apr 15, 2010 10:47 am --

I don't care what colour a manager's skin is, as long as they're not Polish!

The majority of footy fans have never had any truck with racism, long before the FA got into their Let's Kick Racism out of Football Campaign. They always wanted to see the best for their club regardless of pedigree, ethnic origins, sexual preferences etc. There will always be an unenlightened minority at any club who catch the headlines. Nobody would make a story of the thousands singing BlueMoon or walking peacefully back down Joe Mercer Way after whipping MANUre, but let's make a shortlist of the current top three black managers from the EPL, La Liga, Serie A and the Bundesliga.

Here's my list . . . . . . . . .

So, someone is expecting the FA to appoint a manager who has not made any mark in the major footy leagues? Doesn't make a scrap of sense.

I'd say Frank Rijkaard is a top manager. Chris Hughton deserves respect too. This isn't cos they're black ofcourse, its cos theyre good.

I'm sure with all the talent of black footballers in England and elsewhere, they'll soon be some top managers too. Its gotta be tougher for black potential-managers to get a foothold in the game, with a lack of others before them doing so - however, in reality giving managerial roles to black people just because of their race - will do more damage to the progression of black people in management than good. i think.

I don't agree with what he's saying about they should appoint a coaching staff member because of skin colour, you're credentials should decide that. I do think though that its harder for black players to get into management though, so I can sort of understand what he's saying. Les Ferdinand talked about this issue, and he came across well, it was a good article.

ince had a great chance to proove that black coaches are upto the job, he failed at blackburn, john barnes had a great chance at celtic, he too failed, both highest callibre as players but to be honnest not anywhere near good enougth for prem, or international coaching jobs.
its not a black thing its just that no plack englishman has yet prooved to be upto the top jobs.
but given time it will change forever is a bloody long time.
