Blaise Matuidi

I asked the question in the Fernandinho thread a few days ago about Yaya/Fernandinho. Basically, Fernandinho was Yaya at Shakhtar and played alongside a real ball-winning midfielder. Fernandinho breaks play up well but isn't the sort of DMC who sits behind the half way line which made me wonder about Yaya and Fernandinho co-existing and whether Fernandinho would play a more cautious role as having Yaya as the only cover for defence is potential suicide (he's very poor at breaking up play). Someone like Matuidi would co-exist with either. But the same questions - would that mean playing a '2' and dropping either Yaya and Fernandinho or playing a '3' with all of them... which would then meaning sacrificing one of our attacking players (and god knows we have enough of them with more to arrive).

According to RMC Sport, #MCFC have contacted #PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi’s entourage and are prepared to make an offer to the French club

- If he coming to us, It's great deal.

buying from psg is unlikely to be a "great deal" (well, it will be a great deal of money)

Could only see this if we are defo getting Isco and Samir Nasri was going in the opposite direction.

-- Mon Jun 10, 2013 7:20 pm --

He primarily plays as a combative central midfielder often occupying a withdrawn position as a deep-lying playmaker and is described as a "fierce and strong tackler"

Only signed a three year deal in 2011, so possible if he wants to move on.

A central 3 of this guy, Fernandinho, and Yaya is something I'd expect Mourinho to play (which is why we hear rumours that Mata might be for sale), all indications are Pellegrini won't play this way, at least on a normal basis.

Unless PSG are going total superstar crazy and are going to get rid of their players that do the leg work, i can't see why they'd even consider selling him.

Would love to see him play for us, but only if we were to sell a few midfielders such as nasri, Barry and Garcia, only because we have a lot of midfielders..

Man City Target £10m PSG Midfielder Blaise Matuidi

City hope to sign French international on the cheap.

Manchester City are targeting a £10million move for PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi according to talkSPORT, despite the French international being available for free next summer.

City want the 26-year-old to become their third signing of the summer transfer window, following the arrivals of Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk and Jesus Navas from Sevilla, as they remain interested on strengthening their midfield options.

Matuidi scored eight goals for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, and has often been linked with a move to Arsenal in the past, though the Gunners’ interest is thought to have dropped. It is now thought that City could face competition from Rafael Benitez’s Napoli for the midfielder’s signature.

Matuidi’s contract expires at the end of next season, but City are so keen to land him now that they will try PSG’s hand with an offer of £10million for the former Saint Etienne star.

PSG may be tempted to sell the player if they do not get him to agree to a new contract, and he would certainly be an improvement on the likes of Gareth Barry and Javi Garcia in City’s midfield.
