tbh the transfer of dinho won't slove all the problem in that compartiment....maybe pelle will convert garcia into a CB then we need another defensive midfelder and this guy fill the bill and also he is in the last year of contract with psg so i don't think he will cost more than 10M...if the reports are true that we are very keen on him i don't see him turning down the chace to play in PL

It would be wonderful to think Garcia could come good,in either position, however,i'm of the opinion he is simply not good enough.

If we do sign this lad then i would expect Barry to leave also.

Been trying for ages.

Inadvertently created a monster.

Anyway, does anyone actually think Pelle is interested in bringing Mutuidi in? Or is this just agent talk?

How many midfielders can we buy in one summer?
It seems a lot doesn't it? I think however when you change managers and footballing philosophies, you're going to have a major shakeup. At least we have a lot of contracts running down and/or running out.

I don't have it in for Barry. I simply recognize the reality. He collapses when pressed. The rest of the league has figured that out now, too. That's not praise nor indictment of Garcia. I imagine the new manager will make an objective evaluation of both.

Our overall midfield was poor as we didn't replace NDJ.

he is a defensive MD if i'm right and if this is true and with fernandinho already us then this means one thing the end for both barry and garcia

Not a bad thing at all.
Only negative is one less English player in our squad.

The English contingent is something we must keep our eye on to comply with prem and uefa rules.

I can get on board with a little shake up... I just worry that Mutuidi isn't really better than what we have and, with so many changes, we'll need a season or two to really get together again.

That said, if the move is Barry (or Garcia, even though I think he'll improve) out for Mutuidi, than I would support it since he has more years left in him.

What do we have now for that position?

Primary
Barry (HG)
Garcia
Rodwell (HG)
Fernandinho

Secondary
Yaya
Milner (HG)
Razak (HG)

Desperate Times
Zabaleta
Kompany
Brian Kidd

Fair assessment. :)

I can't judge Matuidi as I don't watch a lot of the French League.

Based on seeing him in the for France, in the CL with PSG, and PSG vs. Marseille games, Matuidi is miles better and more suited to England than Garcia. Amidst all the big name signings, Matuidi was the work horse of the very good PSG side last season. Getting him for £10m or so because of his contract would be a huge coup and I have been quietly hoping our interest is real (but nothing since that original story). He is very much in the Makelele/De Jong mold but very mobile and more versatile than NDJ. He averages about 3.3 tackles and 3.5 interceptions per game which is an incredible defensive stat (Garcia = 1 tackle, 1.4 interceptions per game / Barry = 2.1 tackles, 1.4 interceptions). Our midfield is, compared to Europe's best, very weak besides Yaya and now Fernandinho, so I wouldn't mind an overhaul with both Garcia and Barry leaving. But of course the risk is the settling/gelling process again.

not really because if we take matuidi we will have yaya and dinho as first options and matuidi barry rodwell as second options..

He struggled against Nice, Lyon, and a couple others in Ligue 1 and against Porto and Barça in the CL. The quality drops off quite a bit outside of the top four or five in the French league (and he is surrounded by very good players) so I wouldn't use that as his primary assessment.

I agree he is good, I have never opposed that, but I really feel as though people are overestimating his talent. At least, when applied to the English game (although, he could very well be a great fit, but we don't have any reason to believe that with such certainty).

His stats are impressive, of course, it I still have reservations.
