The owner of the phone would almost certainly have had to pay an excess on whatever Insurance policy they had on it, usually £100 on IPhones. Why on earth would you not hand it in, it's not yours or your mates.

Who do you suggest he should hand it in to? The coppers are not gonna do anything to find the owner.
What complete tosh.

Of course he should hand it to the police. The police log the serial number against those listed stolen/lost.

if the owner was insured and paid out, then the phone belongs to the insurance company....who have a lot more money to throw behind court cases than your average joe bloggs on the street
Yet the owner is down the excess.

His mate is a theiving ****.

do they really?

You think the desk sargeant is gonna drop everything and find the dozy fucker that lost his phone.

Yes. The do for a wallet with £10 let alone a mobile worth £500.

Fuckin 'ell, they bring out the new iphone just after our local cop-shop has been shut down. Bugger.

It doesn't get away from the fact that his mate was wrong to hold onto the Iphone from the beginning, he should of handed it into his office Manager or the Police.

Once a handset IMEI is blacklisted it's extremely difficult to get it unlisted. The only way really to do it would be for the original account holder who purchased the phone to report it as no longer being lost or stolen, which clearly isn't going to happen in this case.
Good thing as well.

Why wouldn't the original owner report it no longer lost (or stolen). If it is handed in and identified? If it was reported he or the insurance company will be informed.
