Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Did I get it wrong? I wrote OB1 down for 5th December?

EDIT - No, here's the original post:-

I thought I had the 26th, the graveyard slot. Happy enough to wait if not. Doogle feel free to ignore my PM re sending it in early if not.

I think you are correct - that was the original list that Mancitydoogle posted but Knaresboroughblue asked if he could wait until the new year.

I was just highlighted the order for the next couple of weeks.

For some reason, I thought I still had time to psot about REM.

In short, got all their later stuff but it did go downhill and their infamously bad appearance at MK Bowl that I had the displeasure to witness really left me losing interest but I should go back and check out more of the early stuff: I only own an early best of.

Oops my bad, this why you make a good chairman Rob and I don’t !
I’m in holiday mode and didn’t look at my own list, I just saw that @bennyboy said he was ready and the date didn’t register.
Anways apologies to @OB1
are you ok for next week?

Mancitydoogle must have some how got a whiff of what I would supply and decided to skip to something he would find to be preferable, cos you know my selection ain't going to be anything like bennyboy's.
Sorry make you Ok for next week?

Ha ha, don't worry about it. I'm sure we're all happy after England's win.

I didn't think OB1 would mind but I was trying to head off any potential issues.

It is a wonderful thing to find music that endures and still makes you feel the same 40 years on from the first time you heard it, or even better when your relationship with it has evolved over the years but remains as strong just in different ways.
Agreed threespires and I not ashamed to say some songs I have not evolved with at all but that says more about me than the music I would suggest but you develop a better understanding why you were flawed to feel that way in the first place.

Agreed on the repetitive point, and I think you hear them mixing up tempos much more on their studio records. Every one has a few songs where the tempo slows down appreciably. One music critic I love described this really well -- the problem with early REM on slow songs is you actually have to ennunciate the lyrics; you can't garble everything like Stipe does here on the fast ones. If you listen to "Camera" from their second full length record "Reckoning", it is fucking awful because you can't understand a word Stipe is singing. Not too much later, he started actually singing words you could understand, especially on "Document", when suddenly his anger at the state of the world flared up, and he wanted to be sure everyone understood that.
Its a great point you make Fog , Stipe admitted in his interviews that he didn't consider himself that articulate.
Imagine that a songwriter of his capability admitting he was not articulate and suffered as a result of it. Vulnerable and lacking self confidence I think a blessing in his development meant his enunciation as you say on songs that where lyrics are required to be more prominent impacted on his delivery negatively albeit I think you are a tad harsh on Camera on that score. It may be overthinking on my part but his early style was partly reflected in the meaning behind the lyric much of it unrequited love. I often wonder how someone like Paul McCartney who outside the lyric and discussion of the music itself struggles in the main in general conversation in terms of being articulate unlike Tom Petty for example can pen such lyrics but then I realise where the words actually come from.
