Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

It took me a long time to realise how good Crowded House are, I think I had some unaccountable unconscious bias against them. Having belatedly "discovered" them though over the last year or so I love some of their stuff. I think the Beatles comparison isn't overstating the quality of their work.

I dare say I'll get round to listening to listening some more Neil Finn at some point, a recommendation on where to start wouldn't go amiss although Spotify top tracks is always a default option.

Don McGlashan came up on the random tracks on Spotify after I'd played my own playlist, I can't remember which song but it wasn't one I got into.
His first two solo albums are good: Try Whistling This (1998) and One Nil (2001).

I've not been too fussed about his more recent stuff and he's kind of dropped off the radar for me now.

However, I mentioned it above because I honestly think the best Finn album of this century is Liam Finn's I'll be Lightning. That was from 2007, and I've not been too impressed with what he's done since but that album is outstanding.

Just about to listen to this playlist having been focused on The Pixies over the last few days.

I was reluctantly dragged to see Crowded House when they toured Woodface. I ended up seeing them twice more on the same tour. Bit well mannered but lovely melodies. Would love to have seen the 7 Worlds Collide gigs Finn did with Marr and Eddie Vedder et al but a bit of a hike!

Tbh I think Finn is better when he's collaborating with other people be it his brother or others. Try Whistling This is probably my favourite of his solo albums but I think that might in part be Crowded House material.

Crowded House were my number 1 artist for a good 10 years and an still love them. Their first four albums with the original line-up are all superb.

Johnny Marr put in a guest appearance when Neil Finn played at the Lowry in 2014.

He did indeed. The CH original line up had great chemistry and I was very shocked wihen Paul Hester took his life a few years back. The tribute Neil Finn did at the Arias was very touching.

Nothing really stood out for me but liked The Chills,The Bats and Straitjacket Fits but i cannot see me investigating further.
The Clean really annoyed me with that vocal and synths mix.lol

Without wanting to distract from any last minute comments on this in the 15 odd hours it has left, a quick reminder @mancity2012_eamo that you are up tomorrow. Not that you maybe need it, but better safe than late.
