Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

John Barry / The Persuaders

I can now cross that off my, not very short, shortlist to nominate. You could fill the entire playlist with John Barry music from both big and small screen. My personal favourites this week are All The Time In The World and the motif from You Only Live Twice but that could easily change next week.

@OB1 this is the first theme we've had where I've thought I'd be happy for it to simply continue into a second fortnight, great choice.

Seems s shame not to pick at least one from the glorious array of US TV theme tunes of the 70s and 80s.

"The Rockford Files" - Mike Post & Pete Carpenter

Very true and you've picked a good 'un there.

Maybe I should bin my long list and just go for The Love Boat...set a course for adventure, your mind on a new romance :-) or if the 'lyric' "the plane, the plane" counts as part of the fantasy island theme I might need to go for that.

From my favourite Disney/Pixar animated franchise, and a tear never fails in remembering watching these with my then-kids:

"When She Loved Me" - Sarah McLachlan (from "Toy Story 2")

Great pick. Have always thought the primary purpose of the Toy Story franchise is simply to train up parents to let go.

Fight the power - public enemy

An iconic song by an iconic band for an iconic film by a not that iconic director. Requested in '89 for the film Do The Right thing, and really emphasises those few explosive tense scenes, became a bit of an anthem for a while. Covered-ish by their later incarnation, Prophets of Rage, in the No sleep till brooklyn mash-up.

Good shout. I tend to associate that track with Fear of a Black Planet and I'd forgotten, if I'd ever realised in the first place, that Do The Right Thing came first. It was on recently, still very watchable.

This final pick was tough, so many options had to be discarded.

A Spinal Tap 11, Greatest American Hero theme, Frankie Valli's Grease, and others. I had to go with a song from an artist my Mom got me into back in the day in her honour.

This movie wasn't the greatest of musical remakes as the acting and storyline was pretty much panned, but wow were there some great songs off of this soundtrack. I'll go with the opener for a nod to a time when I was enjoying the same song of a parent as a teen. Listening to this song and lyrics this week has also fired me up for a hopeful good news in 31 days (the day afterwards). Of thee I sing, indeed.

"America - From 'The Jazz Singer'" - Neil Diamond
