Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 28 - Coatigan - Instrumentals (pg 444)

Possibly the first ever one hit wonder?

He's a well respected 20th century composer but I have to admit I couldn't name another of his works.

I remember reading somewhere that the bloke who wrote Daisy Bell (Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do...,) had a massive 'hit' with it but was so hacked off with sheet music piracy that he sacked it all off. No idea if that's true or not.

Anyway thanks for this theme, gives me an opportunity to correct a glaring ommision from the recent jazz playlist.

Night In Tunisia - Dizzy Gillespie

Yea no disrespect meant in the slightest. It is a stunning piece of music. And he is a known and respected composer as you say, and many will recognise that melody. But his other works really are not that popular as multiple ones by others of the time/type.

It wasn't that flippant a post, if you think about it.

Didn't think you were being flippant, was really just agreeing that despite his status it's pretty much the only thing us masses know him for.
