Blue Moon Top 100 Bands Artists - Full List of Artists (pg 287)

I was quite a Bowie fan back in the day, my older brother was a Bowie freak with the silver platform boots and dyed quiff hairdoo! Loved the stuff upto and including ‘Station to Station ‘but my interest waned after that,I particularly liked his white boy Philadelphia Soul period of ‘David Live’ and ‘Young Americans’
it was through Bowie i got into Lou Reed and the VU who I still prefer.
My admiration of him soured due to his treatment of Mick Ronson, who was not only his guitarist and sideman but also responsible for the musical arrangements on his albums upto ‘Diamond Dogs’
it was Mick that was responsible for making the ‘Transformer‘ album so great as
Reed and Bowie spent most of the time out of their heads on drugs.
Mick died a pauper and was only helped by Ian Hunter and Joe Elliott in his terminal years.
I met Mick and Ian a couple times and both came across as down to earth ,sound guys, I never met Bowie but I get the idea he was a bit of a twat.
And yes the Glass Spider gig at Maine Road was piss poor.

So I’m 100% confident (have been since no 89 actually) that four of my British Bands won’t be there.
Supertramp great era from Crime of the Century through to Breakfast in America. Particularly liked Roger Hodgson songs and they were one of my wife’s favourites.

Frost great Prog band with the amazing John Mitchell on Guitar. Listen to the debut album especially the title track and Black Light Machine.

It Bites forget Calling all the Hero’s and listen to Once around the World title track. Pop/Classic rock with an infusion of prog - Oh and John Mitchell in two albums.

Magenta Welsh prog band who wear their Yes,Oldfield and Renaissance influences on their sleeve.Check out The 27club or Metamorphosis for a start.

I've learnt to play a version of Logical Song on my acoustic. I just wish i could sing. If i went busking, it would just be instrumentals. I'd get fuck all.

The guitar solo on Goodbye Stranger is one of my favourites- He uses wah , delay and some great techinque. As its on the fade-out radio stations usually cut it off

this was just the tonic needed after recent debates - no one can deny Bowies place here and I think 6th is just about right.
Influential, ground breaking and some amazing records over the decades - Hunky Dory I reviewed and it was a brilliant listen

My favourite Bowie track. Listen to it regularly
