PB Chub today 5lb on the dot.View attachment 21067
Well played blue, congrats on the pb.
Quick question mate, have you/ do you fish the dane at all? Only asking cos of your username.
Had a look at it today at byley bridge, not an angler in sight. Looking to start wetting a line again after many years off and I fancy a bit of river fishing. Looks ideal for a mobile approach, not arsed about the size or species, just looking to get back out again. Any info would be welcome cheers

I have walked it many times when I was in middlewich anglers but never fished it , I have seen decent size chub taking off the top and I know of carp coming out of the stretch higher up , I see most people fishing under the bridge but I think the better spots are more of a walk round the fields. If you want my honest opinion I would join northwich anglers , decent bit of the weaver and also wincham brook with good chub numbers. If you need any more info ask away

Had this out of one of our club waters yesterday. As you can probably tell tricky to get in that net. Really chuffed because it was on the pole - size 16 hook and a single grain of corn. Just under 21lb weighed in the net that weighs just under 1lb wet so I reckon a smidge under 20lb.View attachment 21113
Even Stevie Wonder can see that's not 20lb, ya blind ****; )

Cheers blue, thanks for that. I'll have a look at northwich anglers then, i've never even heard of wincham brook. No doubt i'll be back with more noddy questions.
Thanks again

Severn again today, had two early bream both around 3lbs and no sooner had I thought, "yup another good session on the cards" than it dried up completely. Managed a few roach but it was hard going. My mate had no barbel after having 8 from the same stretch last Tuesday.

It was a foot higher on Tuesday so I guess it needs some more water.

I always find bream switch on and off the feed very quickly - never manage to get these day-long sessions with a huge shoal hooked on a carpet of bait. Catch most of my better ones by accident when targeting roach or carp tbh. BMR reckons they don't like hemp which has given me a complex (the twat).

Ha ha, after today I can confirm they don't like groats either

A couple of old timers told me that, said hemp repelled the larger bream and over the years I definitely agree. The moment i stopped using hemp in my groundbait mix was the moment my average bream size increased.

Chopped worm and caster is what you want mate; )

cheaper to feed the slimy fuckers on caviar. I'm a pleasure angler, not some sponsored match fishing ****!

I’ve been out a few times this weekend. A new recommended “secret” perch spot on the Calder gave encouraging results over two early morning sessions. Using worm and livebaits I had several perch around a pound and a couple of big trout. This spot has to be the one to finish my film. I was told it has produced three pounders in the past.

I couldn’t resist abandoning the camera and doing an afternoon rolling meat for the Ribble barbel yesterday and ended up with two good chub.

God loves a trier mate! What's crashed the Salmon stocks on the Wye? - I'm assuming not Salmon farming / lice that far south?
I don't think its such a problem mate. I have seen first hand the damage caused on west coast rivers like the Lochy though.

Problems at sea, and there are many, are so difficult to sort.
Inshore predation, poaching, pollution and bad farming practices are where we can make a difference imo.

Also the banning of our snr ponds by the wankers of national resourses Wales is a fuckin disgrace. Know nowt bunch of cunts.

What does this mean Snorky ?
The snr project grew up the fish from the hatchery to smolt size when they were released back into the Wye to descend to the sea.
They were safe from predation so survival rates were much, much higher.
The hatcheries and ponds have sadly been shut down.

This seasons Wye salmon catch is looking like being one of the lowest on record.

Have a look at The Wye Salmon Association site mate , and I would urge anyone interested to join up. Its only a tenner, and if you fancied a day trying for a salmon they have a Rods On River section offering free days salmon fishing!
