Bluemoon Angling Thread

Sorry, I'm a bit useless for local information as I only moved here 3 years ago and I'm only just getting to grips with the Leamington/Warwick local area. I joined BAA 3 years ago and still haven't fished any of their waters.

If it's anything like the Avon near me, it will be very slow flowing with some quite deep pools. Ideal for lazy trotting. Plenty of roach, dace, chub (mostly small but with the odd big one), perch the odd barbel but very large and, of course, my favourite, decent bream. Speaking to the occasional barbel fisherman, it appears that they get a fish, on average, every couple of (short, evening) sessions which seems pretty good to me. All baits are good but I've caught my best bream on spicy soss pellet-os

As a small-fish fisherman, I often have trouble with pike killing the swim for half an hour, then they come back and it's on and off all day.

All that is near me though. It may be a different river where you are going. Let us know how it goes.
Cheers buddy.

Heads up for a few lads on here that fish the river weaver . Despite arctic conditions yesterday my mate won a league match with 85 lb of Bream on the feeder , 42lb was 2nd . Two different sections of the river around Northwich so the Bream are tightly shoaled in the cold water and feeding if you can find them ! :-)

Crikey. I don't fish the Weaver but it makes me wonder, out of interest, do the anglers drawn on the other sections catch decent weights in January ? Also, presuming those fish spread out in the warmer months, what would be an average match weight in, say July ?

Looking at the weigh sheets from the match it was a feast of famine job .Very little caught and blanks in some areas a few fish in others then several huge weights from a few pegs where the fish are tightly shoaled and prepared to feed .River was coloured which helps this time of year aswell especially with bream . July is usually a good month on the weaver but August September and October usually the best . River with colour after rain and a bit of flow always best .

I fished it under the arches at Vale Royal last Sunday. In 4 hours over late am early pm I had 3 tiny roach. Tip never moved for any of them. Reason I'm telling you is that's good for me. :-)

Haha . My mate had the 40 kilo weight of bream on Saturday from peg 42 on the boats , the 20 kilo weight came from the end peg on the dredger next to the main road bridge ;-)

I’ve been on a long drought but it’s over with a bang.

I’ve been popping out for odd short sessions when I can but I’ve been really busy so just an hour here and there with the lure rods. Last week I improvised and freelined a bunch of worms on my perch setup and had a 1lb perch.

Next week it’s my annual heavyweight pike trip on a boat at Esthwaite water so I bought some new lures. I had a few hours free this afternoon so decided to have a play with them. Had a jack pike on a curly tailed buster jerk bait and then decided to move canals and try the perch rod. 2nd or 3rd cast with a little shad and a football of a perch lunged up by my feet and missed the lure. That got the heart racing and I dropped the lure back in in hope. Bang, it hit it again like a train. I’d like to report a titanic battle but there wasn’t one and it came in easily. Oh my. This was a special perch and after collaring a dog Walker for photos I did an extremely careful weighing session because we were in PB territory, certainly for my local canal.

It was 2lb 15 and a half oz. 59087864-4AA9-473A-B4C3-1A4FE1E28FEE.jpeg
