Bluemoon Angling Thread

I get what you're saying regarding a 4 or 5 feet tail as specimen fish are crafty having seen most methods before and back off. A thinking outside the box approach sometimes outwits the wariest of fish and I've had some of my biggest fish in the witching hour when they have more confidence to feed. Do you use a flourocarbon tail in clearer water?

Yes, always fluorocarbon. Usually 10lb although I've got some 8lb which I'll use if it's bright and clear.

I haven't much faith in it tbh as I've found it a little too stiff and not very abrasion resistant. I think I have a spool of 10lb Fox flouro and also 8lb, but got cracked off on the Wye as it's too light. I have tried braided tails as it's supple and very low diameter but it can act like cheese wire so I never use it now as I don't want to see any damage to the mouth of a fish. I tend to use Fox camo spool line and tail.

Seaguar ace hard fluorocarbon for fly.
Maxima chameleon mono 18lb for spinning.

mainly east. Tay and South Esk.

Oh :(
I am on the Tummel in September.
I hope to get the chance to get back on the Dee for a few days too.
Also fishing the Annan October. Last year was awful, and my mates were up a couple of weeks ago.... fishless! :(

seems to be the consistent message. You can blame fish farms for the west, but the East seems to be going the same way!

This article in the Guardian the other week says it all:

Good luck on the Tummel, just be careful when wading as I understand it can be dangerous when they let water through the dam at Pitlochry :-)
I'm out tomorrow for another day on the dry fly.
