Bluemoon Angling Thread

"A Passion For Angling" is, and always will be, the best fishing TV series ever made. Chris Yates is an angling hero. And I run his Facebook page ;-)

I used to really like watching his programmes back in the day. A purist angler in pursuit of piscatorial bounty. His Redmire adventures were a must watch.

Does he still fish with a split cane rod, quill float and centrepin reel dressed in tweed Dave?

I'm not sure how the tackle tart commercial fishery noddy know nowt anglers would take to him if he turned up to fish on a Sunday morning; )... Proper old skool angler.

Chris Yates, is he the "old fashioned" fedora wearing basket carrying angler seen catching bars of gold with Martin bowler on catching the impossible, if it is i love his olde worlde style

Yep, he still uses antique tackle and is very eccentric. He's very much revered in the fishing world. He was featured on a couple of films recently including one where he goes carp fishing with Martin Bowler.:

A very good friend of mine Ian Hirst has done a few angling features for Angling Times Carpworld and Bait Tech, and a good vlog on the mighty River Ebro in Spain. He talks to another fishing buddy and Ebro guide Robbie Marsh. If you watch at 5:14 you'll see me holding onto a cat somewhere between 80-90lbs. I've fished on Robbie's stretch 8 or 9 times(trips) now and fishing on there is as good as it gets IMO. I'm holding the tail end of his fish I think was 130lb+. Real river monsters.

Enjoy: )

Great stuff mate. I think I'll have my fishing holiday on the Ebro next year and will come to you for help choosing a guide.

No problems DD, I'll give you any help and advice I can mate. But don't make the mistake that many do and go with a guide upstream in Mequinenza or Caspe. It's a circus up there and although the fish are bigger due to scoffing sack fulls of pellets daily, you're just be left sat over a couple of rods waiting for the alarms to bleep. The fish must be so fuckin' bored of being caught, they hardly fight, plus there's no flow i(as it's dammed)which the fish can use their flanks to hug bottom.

It really is a brilliant holiday mate, not just the fishing, but the scenery and wildlife enhances the memories when thinking of there. If you go with Robbie Marsh, just ask him has he found my drone I lost; )

If you fancy a bash at carp fishing, I know another guide who has a better stretch on the Ebro for big carp. Also, you may fancy going for big carp and monster Spanish barbel one day in Extremadura to fish on lake Orrellana and Talaburrias. They are huge lakes and still have pretty much unknown potential, but Ian and another mate Gaz have put many hours in on the bank around there. I've only fished the region once about 10 years ago so I'm not clued up. They have caught carp there to mid 50s and Spanish barbel just shy of 30lbs. Here another vlog Ian did on there.

If a salmon sees your gurning Benny Hill like face whilst singing Elvis songs, it may turn belly up; )

Tight lines snorks, you definitely need some luck on there mate.

Anyone want a Mackenzie DTX G2 10/11 shooting head with integrated running line?
Cast once.... and never seen a salmon!
