Bluemoon Angling Thread

Got told about a lake last week. It's just 35 miles north of us but had no idea it was out there. Gave it a try yesterday morning. Went out there early so I could get back for the game at noon. Had rain and storms previous couple of days and forecast was overcast all day, so was hopeful of several bites. What a great find it was. Looks different to most lakes in this area, with the amount of trees in the water felt more like being in the swamps of the deep south. In five hours we didn't see or hear a soul its so far off the road not even a distant vehicle. We must've caught around 30 fish, bass and perch but nothing real big. A great day all round.

I've never been bass fishing, heard it's fun. Got a couple of places nearish, need to give it a try

I prefer to fish on topwater for bass, I like how they strike. They are fun to catch. Not so much though when you know it's a good fish on, they jump and spit the plug back at you.

Don’t you need a big fuck off boat and cross the lake at 100 mph to do that mate?

Nah, I prefer a more sedate way of enjoying the river

where is that mate? Looks a lovely trout stream. You certainly seem to have enough cool boxes for the beer.

That's my kind of fishing

Lost a good Salmon on the Tummel last week. Few fish were running with no residents in the pools.

Back on the Wye later today.Casting practise only I fear.
The latest problem with phosphates seems to have affected the annual growth of ranunculus weed.... There isn't any!
There are a lot of dead cygnets around though. Starved perhaps?
I have never seen the river in such a dire state.

That’s tough luck mate. Really sad to hear about the wye. Such a beautiful river, hopefully it’s a temporary thing and it will recover. Is the phosphates issue being addressed? What is causing it fertilisers? We had a similar problem with Loch Leven a decade or so past which was addressed and resolved.

3rd salmon I have lost on the trot mate!

The algae and phosphate pollution is due to the huge increase in chicken farming in Wales imo.
Powys CC have given the green light with no thoughts to the river it seems.... And they continue to do so!
The RSPB have started to take an interest in the cygnet deaths I hear.
The river owners seem to not give a shit about the salmon anymore as the barbel anglers are happy to pay their dues.
I am afraid it is past the point for salmon mate :(

Christ if the Salmon Farms dont finish off the wild population the Chicken farms will. Its a bloody disgrace the pollution coming from agriculture and high time they were forced to clean themselves up. Respective governments in Scotland have been shit at cleaning up these environmental disasters.
Did you enjoy your trip despite the loss?

I had an evening trip to The Ribble last night. It was High, coloured and falling and looked perfect. Weather was cloudy with squalls and the banks quiet.Typical Ribble, I fished into dark and didn’t get a touch. However a family of otters cavorted through my swim on dark which was a great sight to see.

Great trip mate. Beautiful fly water.
Planning a trip to the Tweed next.

Surprisingly I saw nothing but canoeists on the Wye today. Colour is still nasty despite a small rise.
