I use frog hair. Pricey but haven’t lost a fish to a break since started to use it. Brilliant stuff.

Just googled that stuff, says it's very supple which flouro carbon mono isn't, often stiff as wire. Do you think it would be suitable for coarse fishing hooklengths?

It is pretty supple for floro. It will have less stretch than nylon but I find it knots very well and is ultra reliable. I use 10lb breaking strain for most fishing nd only go down to 8lb or 6lb for ultra spooky fish. The floro I used before which was highly recommended I lost fish after fish, particularly on smash takes. This one, I haven't lost a fish through a break in 2 seasons of using it. Worth a try mate.
Its expensive but you will get a lot of hook lengths out of it, unlike fly fishing where my usual leader is 22ft of the stuff + up to 3 droppers. You get through a few spools in a season!

Just had a quick session on the Avon. Picked up the wrong rod and ended up quivertipping bread with a 3.25 test curve pike rod ! Got myself into a Noggi-knot (patent pending) and called it a day.

I'd have to have a look at it in a tackle shop first mate. I'm very fussy about hooklength line in it being supple , abrasion resistant and thin enough diameter.
I used to like using braid ledgering at distance as a fish nibbling the bait will register on the quivertip even at distance as it almost has zero stretch. But I always used a mono shockleader of about 12ft and mono hooklength. Tried braid as a hooklink but it acts as cheese wire on soft mouthed species like bream and barbel, and can cause mouth damage. Braid is extremely thin supple and abrasion resistant but it's not something I recommend using for hooklengths though.

As an indication, the 8.8lb is 0.203mm diameter, the 10lb is 0.223mm
let me know how you get on with it.

Those diameters are quite thin for flouro. I'm wondering if it's already available (course fishing) under a different branding ?

It’s an American co. They seem to specialise in Fly, both sea and freshwater.

As posted last week I had my first session for years on this overgrown peg on my local river.
and here is the first chub of my latest foray into fishing again, not very big, but he will fatten up come oct/nov. Had a couple more too along with roach/dace and gudgeon, all on trotted maggot.

That swim might be a bit difficult as its a neighbours garden, but I have been to a day ticket fishery this week called Hampton Springs (see image)and had some decent fishing, we could sort a session out no probs(although I do start work in earnest again next week). I have some pics from there but for some reason am having trouble reducing their size to upload.

Sorry pal I don't fish commercial fisheries. Give me a peg on a river any day over a fish stuffed pond.
I get where your coming from, I only ever used em for "social fishing",but I needed to get my hand back in and am too late to buy any local club memberships, hence fishing off private land at my neighbours.I will try and get a couple of evening sessions in there and upload the results. The fish there are in good nick,I never ever see anybody fishing upstream from that peg, the only downside is that catching a half decent fish can kill the swim for a while. Come sept/oct I will start fishing my tip rod for the chub with bread as bait, that has always worked in the past.
I fly fish for the elusive silver tourists.
Its not shooting barbel in a barrel :)

Fishing has changed a lot in the UK over the last 30 years. I actually don't mind the commercial puddles stuffed with 1-5lb carp that are always hungry - great for getting beginners into the sport. What I don't like is the amount of mixed fisheries a few acres in size that have a daft amount of double figure to low 30's carp in and are surrounded by bivvy cunts with their magic potions and matt-black sea fishing gear. Hate the fact that this means joining the bite alarm cunts or fishing for bream and tench with 8-10lb mono in case the steroid goldfish turn up.

I’ve been struggling to get out much and just had a few short lure sessions. Not much to report apart from yesterday I finally found some elusive perch in the local river and had three from the same peg, biggest about 1lb 6oz.

I agree that commercial fisheries are great for beginners and anglers wanting a confidence boost but I avoid fishing them like the plague, too busy for my liking and too easy. And I hate the UK carp fishing scene. Tackle tart anglers fishing for known fish they have given a pet name. Lol.
Each to their own.
When I was considering fishing again I had a look on youtube for inspiration, and this guy seemed unpretentious, and clearly loves all kinds of fishing. Reminded me of those 80s John Wilson series on tv, in this episode he fishes the Wye for chub(my fav fish) and barbel using feeders and freeline.
